After fifteen years, my husband and I are finally taking our honeymoon. We are going to Oahu in Honolulu. Does anyone have any suggests as to where or what we should do or stay. I am so overwhelmed by this beautiful island, I don't know where to start. We would like to stay somewhere more secluded. But we don't mind staying were the action is either. We like to hike and are wanting to do lots of activities. What are some special places and things you have done, if any in Oahu?

What can I do next?

Pick up a rental car and snorkel equipment one evening.
Then snorkel at dawn at Hanauma Bay, and spend the rest of the day just driving the big circle around the island, stopping to see anything that you think looks interesting. That was my favorite day on Oahu.

The Polynesian Cultural Center is also worth the time.

I'm from Oahu. The Polynesian Cultural Center is pretty awesome to visit. There is Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head, Hanama Bay. We usually stayed on a private cabin on the beach for military families, so no good recommendations on where to stay. There is a good nightlife, Waikiki is where all the action and luxury hotels are. As for the hiking, it's been too long for me to remember where everything is. But I'm sure you'll get some good advice.

This page has a series of maps of the area with some ideas on what to do there:

I think most of the really neat outdoor waterfalls and such is in Maui though.

good for you!!!

I haven't been to Hawaii since 1976. So things have changed and built up. I don't know if there is anything secluded anymore.

I would contact my travel agent and work with them on this special trip.

The Arizona Memorial is a MUST see.
A Luai on Waikiki is a must.
a hike along the rim of Diamond Head....

have fun!!

We went to Hawaii for our 25th anniversary and went to 5 islands. That was 14 years ago. But some things haven't changed.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ANNIVERSARY ! ! !

The Polynesian Cultural Center is awesome. And they have a very nice luau.
The Arizona Memorial will bring a tear to your eye. Go on a senic drive around the island. Take the road to Hanah. There is a recorded tour that will give you the sights and history of the things you will be seeing.
There is a 14 mile bike ride (I think its 14 miles. It may be longer.) It starts high up on the mountain and you coast all the way down to the base of the mountain. I'd say I actually had to pedal a total of may be 200 yards. You'll stop for breakfast and then coast on. It left our hotel room at 2 or 3 am. We traveled to the top of the mountain and were able to see a FANTASTIC sunrise. Then they gave us the bikes and coasted to the base of the mountain. I know that getting up top be ready at 2:00 am sounds severe. But if you figure the difference between Missouri time and Hawaii time, you are actually getting up around 6:00 am. The view is well worth it.

We were there for two weeks. We went to a timeshare visit and they gave us tickets for 4 to two luaus, and a ticket for two to ride in a submarine (a fantastic experience) BUT DON'T BUY THE TIMESHARE. Its not a good deal. If you don't have a strong will and can just say NO!, then don't go. The entire time share deal saved us about $300 in entertainment costs.

We ate at Burger King and the like for breakfast and lunch (99 cent menus) and had nice dinners (lauas). We stayed at a hotel on the beach with a very nice beach front view. HOWEVER, if we would have stayed at a hotel adjacent to the beach front hotel, we would have paid about half the price and had a condo with a full kitchen and livingroom. We just wouldn't have been able to see the ocean. We were in our hotel for a very short period of time so not being able to see the ocean when we got up and just before we turned out the lights wasn't worth the extra money and not having the condo.

Hope you have a wonderful time. Good luck to you and yours.

Here are a couple of things to check out on the island of Oahu:
-stairway to heaven
-hikes around some waterfalls
-movie night on Friday nights outside on main beach near all the tourist
areas
-Moose McGillicutty's had a $1.99 breakfast from 6am-9am
-there's a zoo right there (maybe not fun for you but thought I'd throw it
out there)
-surf watching
-rent kyaks
-rent bikes instead of mopeds
-hikes in the most luscious of areas most everywhere on the island
-luau (sp?)
-Duke's on the beach for happy hour

Have fun!

rent a moped and drive it up to diamond head. rent a car and drive the big loop (super cheap!!) pearl harbor is an absolute must! BESTsunset is on the northwest corner of the island. there is part of the highway the just dead ends. it is the best sunset. quiet beaches and just beautiful. that is where they filmed part of Lost. i liked snorkeling at sharks cove but the other one mentioned i heard is better. if u have time take a quick day trip to the big island and see the volcano park and black sand beaches. its not as expensive as u would think and ur hotel could prob help u get a flight ;). have fun!
