Dear J.,
Try half water & half white vinegar. You can even put a few drops of fragrance (lilac oil or other aromatherepy fragrances). L. J
HELP!!! I think I have tried every thing I can think of unless you ladies have other idesa. I am a big woman. I am able to wash myself well but her is my problem. Secrect, degree, and dry idea, leave a residue under my armpits. It doesn't matter if it's roll on, spray or, solid. I have tried the deodorant stone only to sweat through it and I have tried the roll on crystals.. or what ever to have it stop working after an hour or so. and that stil leave a residue. I have tried to change soaps but I am sensitive to perfumes so I end up going back to plain white dial or dove body wash. I don't know what to do. I feel like if I raise my arm near any one they are going to pass out from the ordor. I know It's not that bad but in my head it's that bad. I have tried wash clothes, scrubby puffy things and am at my wits end. HELP!!!!
ok so I wanted to thanks everyone for their advice. I was advised to wash my arm pits with St. Ives apricot Face wash. They changed the packaging and the name so it was a little harder to find but it works great. I also searched out a deodorant that doesn't leave so much of a wax build up and have found that Tom's natural deodorant works the best but it does only last the 12 hours advertised. It doesn't contain aluminum chloride so I don't smell so awefull when it's time to wash. and I only need to use the facial scrub every other day. My regular deodorant soap is working again too.

My sister actually had this same problem. She decided to try the deodorant I was using since I didn't have any such issues and it worked like a charm for her. We both use Lady Mitchum, the gel kind. No residue and it works GREAT! Her irritated skin was healing within a day and was completely better within a week. We both LOVE the stuff.
TRY THIS: www.Secret.com/Clinical-Strength THEY HAVE IT IN EVERY STORE, IT'S A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE BUT WELL WORTH IT. I STARTED USING IT OVER A YEAR AGO AND LOVE IT, IT'S THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS ME DRY AND NOT SMELLY! I EVEN TRYED THE WATER PROOF ONE AND IT WORKS REALLY WELL!
I tend to perspire alot in certain situations. My sister suggested drinking 1 tablespoon organic apple cider vinegar in a large glass of warm water, every day. This rebalances your body's chemistry, so when you sweat, there is no odor. I have been doing this since the summer, and even if I sweat, it isn't noticable.
Good Luck
I know I'm late on this, but it might be helpful for you, though it's embarrasing!!:
I'm in my 20's and NOT overweight at all, I'm very healthy, and all bloodwork etc I've had done comes back flying colors. No medications...no reason to smell funky!
BUT I've always sweated more than "normal" and it seems no deodorant works for me, and I've tried just about every one that was mentioned, all brands of men's, scents/unscented you name it (only during pregnancies was I was odorless!) I have the same 'residue' issue you talked about, where deodorants seem to make me smell worse!
Just found a local gal who has a company making natural soaps. She gave me one just as a gift, not knowing my issue, but now my washcloths no longer smell, my clothes are fine, and I'm SOLD!
Go to www.celtic-naturals.com and purchase the "Chain-Bite Citrus" soap and see if that does the trick for you. I just wash with it as my usual soap and I'm good to go. I did experiment w/ another type/scent and the odor came back (yet the chain-bite didn't work well for my hubby, and the recycle-mint that didn't work for me, does work for him.)
Message me if you have any questions, and let me know if it works for you, too!
I just read in the paper yesterday that using Milk of Magnesia as an underarm deodorant worked for someone with a similar problem.
It was in the INdianapolis Star, People's Pharmacy colomn in the EXTRA section.
I am sure it is available to read on their website...in fact there might be a People's Pharmacy website too.
So sorry you are having to deal with this.
#1 Get rid of all foods and drinks with anything artificial in your diet.
#2. Drink lots of clean fresh water
#3. See your Dr. , Many people have over active sweat glands and it can be treated.
#4. Until you see the DR. go to your pharmacy and talk to them about Clinical Strength deodorant/ Antipersperant. There are many now available without a prescription.
#5. get yourself tested for diabetes and your thyroid gland.
As a woman our bodies change about every 7 years.Sometimes for the better, some times not.
The diet change should make a great change in "The Smell", Everyone perspires, it is unhealthy not too, this is how our bodies get rid of toxins. Also using a hot foot soak every day of 20mule team borax and epson salts can also help rid you of a lot of toxins in your body.
Good Luck.
Been there done that.

I had this problem about 2 years ago. I was going through a very stressful time in my life and started sweating a lot. I went to the doctor and got a prescription deodorant. After a few months and some changes in my life the problem went away. good luck I know how embarrassing this can be.
I get a residue from deoderants too which seemed to make body odor worse. I've used Apricot scrub from St Ives (it's meant for your face as an exfoliant - which is what I bought it for) to get rid of it; soap and a wash cloth doesn't work. Also, ask the pharmacist for Certain Dri. It is a stronger antipersirant than usual; it's not a prescription, but they usually keep it behind the counter or have to order it. That has worked well too.
Hi there! I used to have the same problem. My mom turned me on to the Clinical-Prescription strength deodorants. Secret makes one and so does Dove. The one made by Secret is a considerable amount cheaper, money wise. Have you tried either of those? To this day I have not smelled myself when using them. You can get em right OTC. Goodluck and happy holidays!!
Have you tried the "clinical strength" versions of anything? I know Dry Idea has one, I think there are a few others out there. Also, there are prescription deodorants you can get if you talk to a doc.
When to you put on your deodorant? Do you use just deodorant or antiperspirant or a combo stick/gel/roll-on? I have read that it's best to use them when you are cool, not warmed up. So, if you take a shower, wait to cool off and dry off before putting them on.
Have you tried Tom's Natural sticks? I haven't, but I've heard they work well. You have to put them on twice a day so that they don't wear off. It's worth a try.
Sorry I'm not more help:(
I read somewhere about Milk of Magnesia being a life saver for body odor. I just googled it, and there is tons of info about it. Just wipe a little on in each pit, wait to dry, and dress as normal. I've never tried it myself, but the testomonials I've read are making me think I need to.
As for the boys thingy, I have to agree. I have a 20 & 19 y.o. girls and 16 & 7 y.o. boy, and the boys are turning me grayer than the girls ever did. So many more issues with the boys.
Good luck!

J.,
I, like yourself, am a larger gal. I too can clean myself just fine but found that regular deoderants didn't do a thing. Not even the ones that have the baking soda blah blah blah... Know what I use? You may think I'm crazy... I use Old Spice. You got it, men's deoderant. I use the Pure Sport scent. I have noticed that different scents in Old Spice work better for me than others but it has made a WORLD of difference. My pitts would also sweat a lot. It took care of that too.
Good luck on your mission & I hope this helps!

Hey J...
i'm heavier set too.. so i started using secret but i put it on at night.. this way it absorbs into ur skin and doesnt wash off the next day.. so that way i can re-apply a lil' bit in the morning if i feel like i need too.. like after shaving, but i usually dont have too.. I read it in a magazine that deo was meant to be put on at night and not in the morning.. it works like a charm.. good luck :)
have you tried one called mitchum??i too have that problem.it worked for me
I would make an appt with your doctor. There are things they can do and prescription deodorant they can prescribe you. Good luck.
First thing I'd recommend is to have this conversation with your physician. They'll be able to confirm if there's an underlying health condition that is causing this (such as diabetes, hormonal imbalance). They can also write prescriptions for deodorants that are not available to the general public over-the-counter.
Good luck. It's always best to rule out something else. I had found a small, pea-sized nodule in my collarbone last year. Intuition told me to get it checked - 2 physicians (OB/GYN and radiologist) thought it was benign. Biopsy revealed cancer.
You say you turned 40. Are you on any medicines. I am. After I started taking heart meds I stink. I am also a large woman or at least I think I am 200 at 5'1" seems large. I never noticed an oder till the meds. I also noticed my husband developed the same order when he started on meds after his heart attack.
I am very happy with Tom's of Maine. The scents can be funky and hard to find the right one for you, especially at $4-5 a stick. But I like lavendar or unscented. Husband will only use calendula.
My husband also uses baby powder on his privates after every shower. Helps to dry that area and he believes it keeps him from sweating during the day. I've tried that under my breasts in the summer and for day to day use it does seem to help. Maybe try powder right after the shower and deodorant before leaving the house?
Sounds to me like you would benifet from a liver clease. You can google that and try than. You may have some toxins in your system. Perhaps you should also check with your dr. and to a metal test. Hope this helps.
Hey J.,I never respond because usually it has already been said...there is a lot of great advice here that you should consider. What will definately help aleviate body odoer is chlorphil. Nature Sunshine has a great tasting mint flavor. Chug a couple of oz or add it to you water, you'll find your body odor decreases. It is very good for you as well. Good luck. Oh, you will find it at health food stores that carry nature sunshine brand. Its a bit pricey.....
J. - I use Degree Perscription Strength - it is right there with the others - downside it's 7bucks there is also a secret like this - if you don't want to do this I recommend Secret oh I can't remember the name but it is like a cream that goes on and becomes invisable - both types are excellent and I think will resolve your problem. Good luck. I totally understand
Hi J.,
I too have a problem with sweating. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, I sweat under my arms ALL the time. I just started using Mitchum(the clear solid, kinda og like a hard gel). It's the men's unscented kind. I know what you thinking unscented?? But, trust me it works and it doesn't leave any type of residue behind. Since using it I get no odor and I have noticed a considerable reduction in the sweat I produce.
