My inlaws have a cat that is 14 yrs old. They have had her since she was a kitten so they are very attached mostly my MIL and my husband. Well to day my father in law accidently ran over her back end while pulling out of the drive way. She is breathing fine but she will not stand up and i know she is in ALOT of pain. I cant give her anything for pain cuz she fight me tooth and naill (and she is NOT declawed!!). We would take her to the vet but we dont have the money for the bill. I dont want her to suffer but no one will be able to put her to sleep cuz she is part of the family. can anyone help me

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well i went to check on her this morning and found she had peed but it was bloody, so that told me immediately that she had internal bleeding. We rushed her to the local humane society and they ended her suffering for $15. It was hard but it had to be done.

A local animal shelter may be able to put her to sleep without the large bill, or possibly at no charge.

I understand how difficult and sad this is, compounded by the fact that this was an accident of their own doing, and I am sorry for what your family is going through, but you have to do something. She may be like a member of the family, but you don't just allow an animal to suffer and be in horrible pain when euthanasia is an option. It's not fair to the cat at all. She might have spinal cord injuries or a broken pelvis and she cannot be allowed to be in pain any longer. Either decide to at least see what a veterinarian can offer and see what your options are, then decide if euthanasia would be the kindest thing you could do for her. If there is 24 hour emergency care available, don't wait any longer. You all need to accept the reality of the situation, not be selfish about it, and do what is best for the poor cat.

I don't know how anyone could say she'll make it with home care. I'm with all of the others who say you need to take her somewhere immediatly.

I'm would bet a local vet might put her to sleep at no charge if you explain the situation. No vet wants to see an animal suffer. Wrap her gently in a towel so she can't claw you and take her to see someone today, please! You may want to call around if there are several vets in the area to find one who will help you.

Take her to your local Animal Control. They will humanely put her down for free or maybe like $5. You need to do this. If you love her, let her be done with her pain. It's ok to cry the whole time, but if you believe she is really in pain and she can't stand up, she probably has broken bones and/or internal injuries as well. To keep her alive because you love her, would be selfish.

At 14 years old, she I can't imagine there is much that can be done, but to put her to sleep. Will someone go with you and you take her in? You can take her to your county or city animal shelter and the will do it for a small fee.

Human Society or local Animal Control will put your animal to sleep at little or no cost. Please don't do this to that poor animal...put them out of their misery!
