Have Your Kids Had the Swine Flu Vaccine Yet?

I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old. Obviously, my 4 month old can't get it, but I have an appointment today for my 2 year old. I'm really nervous about side effects. What has been your experience?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I took him in yesterday afternoon and he got the nasal spray. He woke up without incident this morning. He's running around and playing and eating without any sign of fever, cough, or sneeze. I am praying that it stays this way. I struggled, myself, on what to do. We have a 4 month old who can not have the vaccine and I'm afraid it would be devastating if he got the flu so I opted to have my older son vaccinated as well as my husband and I(when we can). We'll never know for sure if being vaccinated protected my 4 month old, but I figure why take the gamble? I appreciate your responses. If you choose not to get the vaccine, I can totally see your point and I respect it. I hope you respect mine as well....in the end, we all want what is best for our children.....let's say a prayer for those moms who lost their children to this ugly bug and just hold our babies a little tighter.

No my kids will not be getting it. I asked my pedi and she said she wouldn't even give it to her own children, that it came out way to fast and no research has really been done on side effects or long term issues. Every one that gets it now are just guiny pigs we are who they are testing on.

I had mixed feelings about the swine flumist also but last week I took my son to a well visit check up and they offered it and I turned it down then my son a 7 yr. old that is aware of H1N1 ask why cant he get it over and over he ask so I asked the doctor plenty of questions and I spoke to the nurses and I had them give it to him that was last Friday he had no side effects so far they told me he could have mild flu systoms but none so far. This Monday I took my 3 yr old daughter for the swine flumist she also did fine, I figured it would be alot worse if they did contract the swine virus and developed pneumonia. If this can prevent it then I'm for it.

My son got the H1N1 injectable vaccine at 18 months and had no affects. We went back and forth but finally decided we wanted him to have it.

No....My 14 yr old will not get it. I will not put her at risk at being a guinea pig

She actually had the swine flu about 3 weeks ago. It was mild with exception of a 24-30 hr period when her fever would not go below 102. THe highest was 103.5.

Our Dr. does not give Tamiflu to otherwise healthy children...there is a shortage and it is saved for children with underlying issues. My daughter beat it with nothing but some Tylenol and Motrin. She missed 3 days of school...was down a total of 4 days and had 1 day to rest up.

She is normally a very active child and has rarely had antibiotics. She is back to cheering practice daily and 100%

Of course, this is a very personal choice for you and your family. It ends up being a somewhat controversial topic. The right thing for my family may not be what is right for you.

Best wishes.

My 6 year old and I will NOT be getting the H1N1 vax this year. My logic tells me it's just a flu shot, but my gut tells me to wait and see what the side effects are.

I know im a little late in putting advice on here but here it goes if you dont mind!

I have a daughter that is 6 and half years old and a son that is 5 and half years old and a daughter that is 3 weeks old.
My newborn can't get the vaccine, my son just got it last week and so did I for H1N1 we both got the nasal mist for H1N1 and the shot for the seasonal flu. i got my vaccine because of the newborn mainly cause she can't get the vaccine.
But, I wanted to mention that my oldest is an epileptic and there is a bunch on contraversy about the vaccine and health needy kids like my oldest. But, She had the h1n1 last week! She didn't end up in the hospital and she is finally able to go back to school as of yesterday after being out of school for a week and half.
It does make me wonder "IF" my daughter would have gotten the vaccine (which the whole town didn't have when she got the h1n1 virus) "IF" it would have made a differance?! But that is in the past now. The newborn didn't get it thank goodness even with my daughter being around her the whole time. But, with my oldest having h1n1 and ehr health issues with metabolic epilepsy she did ok.
I just wanted to put some info for those that are so scared about h1n1 that they are closing themselves in their houses and freaking out.
Thanks! And best of luck to everyone!

My ped's office has the H1N1 intranasal spray, but it is made from live weakened virus and I am just not comfortable with that because my child's immune system is questionable. I am waiting for them to get the injectable vaccine made with killed virus. We did not do the FluMist spray for the seasonal flu, I had her vaccinated with the injectable vaccine.

If you don't mind the intranasal spray, the office is at Pediatric Associates of Garland. I don't know if it's reserved for their patients only but it's worth an ask.

Hi, I have a 2.5 year old and plan to get it for her when her ped gets it in. Everyone says the H1N1 vaccine was developed way too fast but the seasonal flu vaccine is developed each year in about the same amount of time as they change it every year to keep up with the ever changing strains.

My kids have not had it because our doctor doesn't have it. I would really like to get it for my son because he has asthma and the H1N1 can complicate asthma. Where can you get it?

My just turned 5 year old just got his at his 5 yr appt last week. He is doing fine and has had absolutely NO side effects. He got the flumist for the swine flu and the regular flu, but we lucked out since it had been 30 days since his regular fle flumist.

I know everyone is worried about the vaccine and that most cases are not that bad. My dr. said that he gave it to his young sons and that it is safe. It is made the exact same way as the regular flu vaccine.
