Have You Heard of Small Business Saturday?

We ALL know about Black Friday, but what about Small Business Saturday? Who is planning on supporting their local small biz on Sat? I will be doing my Christmas toy shopping at a local family-owned toy store, and, thanks to American Express' promotion, they will be giving me a $25 statement credit for doing so. (AmEx had a promotion last month on their Facebook page & I signed up for it, so I will be reaping those benefits)

Even if you didn't get in on the Am Ex deal, will you be patronizing small businesses Saturday or at all during the rest of the Christmas shopping season?

What can I do next?

If I had the money, absolutely.

Would I do it on my Amex card(if I had one),no.

I have stopped shopping at Corporate chain stores(Target being the ONLY exclusion because I get my medication filled there and they do give a ton of money back to the schools within our community). Nothing they stand for represents who I am as a person and the morals I feel I advocate for.

I do my food shopping at Union run grocery stores, when it comes to buying the day to day stuff for my family.

I shop Marlene's Market(I have celiac and other health problems where I have to shop this way..Or I do not eat), Which is a Locally owned health food Grocery store. I have actually met Marlene in person, that is how close she is to her customers.

If family member buy gifts for us from Walmart or any of the other big corporate stores...I take the item back. I always thank them for it, but can not support even getting a gift purchased from there.

Although I will not personally be contributing on Saturday monetarily speaking, have been practicing what I preach every other day of the week.

The complete irony about this is that American Express is not friendly to small businesses. After much badgering from them, we began taking their cards for payment. However, I quickly realized (and shame on me for not reading the small print) that unless a customer used their AmEx, I (the small business owner) was charged a monthly fee. For what? I guess just for the privilege of taking their cards. That is why you will find a LOT of small business do not take their cards. It's great that they are giving you a $25 credit, but they are doing it on the backs of small businesses.

So glad to hear Mama's on here talking about this! I work for a small business and of course we are participating. I think it's important to support your community wherever you live.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and Happy Shopping (if you choose to go)

I support small businesses so I don't feel obligated to shop this Sat. but I might do it just because.

I also posted it on FB and asked all my local friends to post their favorite small businesses that way we may learn of a place we didn't know of before and/or it might open someone elses eyes to do the same!

I think it's a great idea and should happen at least once a month!!

I didn't even know there was such a thing until I received an e-mail from someone I know who has a small company. Unfortunately, she is over an hour away from me and at the moment, I don't need anything she carries.

Almost all of my Christmas shopping is done, but if I need something, I will definitely try to make sure I patronize a small business this Saturday.

I shop the small places all the time.

We have a very nice, boutique type shopping center, yes it is pricey but it is very upscale and I love having it close to my house because it only increases my proprty value.

I just spent $200 on special imported olive wood boards and bowls for gifts. I LOVE this store, it just opened yesterday and is 1 of 9 in the US. Very unique gifts and I am giving back to my community because it is owned by people living in my community.

I saw the FB thing about FedEx. We use FedEx with our business a lot. Love them too!
