Have You Had Any Problems from Getting Your Tubes Tied?

I am 100% positive that I dont want anymore kids ever again in life. So I'm considering getting tubes tied. Did you have any complications from gettting your tubes tied? My bestfriend told me that after the procedure she was sent home with a bandage. And that she didnt even have to take the pain pills. Is it really this easy? I had another friend that told me not to get it because she had complications from it. How was it with you all? Have you gotten pregnant since having them tied?

What can I do next?

i had one almost 5yrs ago. i haven't had any problems from it. my SIL had hers done not to long after that and she hasn't had any problems either. my MIL had one before my husband was born(30yrs ago) and she claims her facial hair is from that. also she had him after she had her tubes tied. but again that was a long time ago. don't know, but it is a possible side effect. other than that no one i know has ever had problems.

My surgery was quick and I definitely only had the bandaid, although I was sore for a few days. Very rarely are there complications, as with any surgery. Pregnancy afterwards is even more rare. Of course, there are no hormonal issues afterwards, as the ovaries and uterus keep doing their job, you have normal cycles, etc. etc. I found it very liberating to not have to worry about pregnancy or the side effects of birth control (whether they are medical or just the hassle and expense!) and I have always felt like I am a complete woman. I was very sure of my decision to not have more children, and that's the key to a successful sterilization.

I got my tubes tied 27 years ago, after the birth of my 3rd child. I didn't have any complications...I came home the day after the surgery and the only thing I can remember is that my stomach muscles were sore, like after starting a really vigorous workout routine. I have had no medical issues since then.
The only thing I can suggest is to be really certain, it is much easier to DO the surgery than it is to UNDO the surgery!!

None whatsoever! I had mine done right at the same time as my c-section. No added recovery time. In fact, I was up and walking the day after - slowly of course but no different than when I had my first. It's been 7 months and besides being tired (from other factors), I feel great!

Why not look into a non-invasive procedure, like Essure or Adiana?
No pain, no incision.

I'm done too, and that's the direction I'm going when I go back to the doc. (DH had a vasectomy, too). I just want to make SUPER sure. :)

No problems at all.
I went to the out-patient clinic, had it done, waited an hour to make sure I had no problems (I have reactions to anesthetic sometimes), and went home. All I had for pain was Tylenol. I would not describe it as pain anyway, more like mild discomfort. I was back to normal routine, including chasing a 2 year old around, the next day.

I have never had any side effects, other than that first day of soreness. It is simple, effective immediately, and didn't interrupt my life. I'm glad I had it done, and glad I don't have to worry about pregnancy.

I had a planned c-section with my second child a little over a year ago and decided to have my tubes tied all in one surgery. The recovery was no different from the 1st c-section that I had to have. The only noticable differences that I have had from having my tubes tied is that my monthly is a LOT heavier and seems to last more days than before having my tubes done. I do remember that was a possible side effect that my doctor told me about, but it seems to be getting better (only has been right over 1 year, so my body is still adjusting itself from having a baby). It's been wonderful for myself to not have to keep up with taking birth control pills anymore!

I think you should go for it. They have developed the procedure so much so that it isn't as invasive as it once was.

I see you've made your decision but wanted to add one thing no one mentioned. When docs do a laproscopic procedure they inflate your abdomen. Sometimes this gas can rise and put pressure on your shoulders until it leaves the body. That was really the only pain I had and it only lasted a couple of days but was pretty painful the first day. Luckily my doc warned me prior to my precedure to expect it.
