Can't speakto the banquet, but the three sided glassed area in a kitchen has me doing double takes. Sounds like a cleaning nightmare.

Thinking of putting a 3 sided glassed area off our kitchen and putting built in seating in it. Our table would then slide in with a chair on the end. Has anyone lived with one of these? Are they fabulous or a pain because you have to get in and slide around? I love the looks but I'm not sure if it's one of those items thats pretty but not practical. Thanks for your input!
Wow! Thanks so much for the input. I knew you guys would shed some light on this. We'll be rethinking that area.

A real PIA. Might want to rethink it.

A real PIA. Might want to rethink it.
We recently had a dining nook made in our little house to use our space more efficiently. It is fantastic! I totally love it! The boys sit on the bench, and my husband and I sit on chairs on the other side of the table. We find that we eat at the table as a family now more than ever.
In a very small space we can fit six people easily, and my husband and I still have the option to get up and down whenever we need to.
Cousin has a "nook" in her basement like that. Whenever we have family events, it ends up that 2 people sit there across from one another and the rest of us find other places b/c it's too hard to slide in/out all the time and not good for little kids.
I would only do built-in bench seating on two sides of the table. That way you can still pull the table out to give the people on the benches more room to get in or out.
I am having a hard time picturing what you are talking about...but my in-laws have something that sounds KINDA similar...
They have a little "nook" type area that has a "booth type" seat in an L shape and then the other two sides are open for chairs.
It isn't horrible to get in and slide...but one issue they HAVE had is their table they USED to have was a "pedestal" type table...with the support just in the middle of the table. Now they have a table with 4 legs and they think that is a pain to try and maneuver with the booth and chairs. With the pedestal, they could put chairs anywhere, but with the legs, they have to work around the legs!
One issue I see with this is you are very limited on number of people you can fit. And then usually the people on the end get stuck getting up to get forgotten items such as more milk, extra napkins, etc rather than just the person who needs it getting up to get it themselves. Whenever I am at my inlaws for dinner, I usually sit on the "back" end of the table so I am trapped in either way and if I need a kleenex or more milk, etc. I always have to ask someone else to get up and get it or ask people to move. :-) Just some things to think about. I don't think I would get one, honestly.
We had banquette seating in my Mom's house in high school. It really is fine and convenient if the table moves.
Anytime you can't freely get up and down from your seat is not worth it, JMO. Good luck!
I would not have that type of seating in my house... I like to get up and about as I need and not have to wait on people to move so I can move.
Secondly, no way I'd have that much glass either, especially here in TX with all the dust we get.
