P.K.
Kids together at camp equals fun, rain or shine. Relax.
My daughter (12 year old) when in a River & Trail camp for the week. This is her 3rd year she attend to this camp but first year that she actually is in this specialty. I am very happy with the camp. The camp is a Christian camp and have been around for long time. The group is of 4 girls and 2 counselors. Near by is another 2 groups of 4 boys and 2 counselors each one. I have notice how she comes back from camp so happy and with a big self steam.
I was very happy when I drop her in camp and she was very exited too. We talk about learning new things and proud, etc.
But I went to check the weather (is being rainy in NJ and the camp is in PA) and it has been raining all week. She has a sweater and a rain cover, plus an emergency cover (I think make of something that looks like foil)
I am sad and worry, no as a worry that she is in danger (I cold the camp to make sure they keep in contact with the counselors and they do twice a day) but I CAN"T HELP my self to feel sad and worry thinking that she is miserable, I would be miserable in the wild and raining.
My husband thinks it must be fun but neither he or me have ever camp.
Do anybody have been camping in a rainy day?
Do you guys still have fun? Please share your fun stories with me.
Thank you moms, I know I sound a little over protective.
Denise, she is already in the camp since Sunday, I gave her many zip block bags, and her rain coat but I am sorry it wasn't what we predict.
Wendy that was funny, thanks.
I think you are right, I have to calm down and think positive, besides if I call one more time they may not let her go next year, lol.

I'm sure the camp can deal with rainy days! we've done a lot of camping where it rained, several times when it even snowed, and always had a blast. rain adds a whole new element to the feel of camp, gives it a quieter closer to nature feel. we go out in the rain and pretend we're the local animals..where would we stand out of the rain if we were a ?, that kind of stuff. we also play lots of stuff in the tent - cards, games, story telling. she wont be miserable, it will make camp a whole different experience and i'll bet she likes it! our first experience with rain camping we werent prepared. no tarp for over the tent and the rain fly didnt work due to the torrential downpour. my husbands bag got totally flooded so he had no dry clothes. he had to wear mine (good thing i'm a big girl!) and it was hysterical to see him walking around camp in my much to short for him pants and pretty tops! i forgot to add that this was the beginning of him singing "I'm every woman" and "I'm beautiful" at odd moments!! my son and i just crack up every time he does!!
I haven't had very many camping trips where it didn't rain...........give her plastic stuff to put stuff in, coffee cans (plastic) for toilet paper, if she needs it, and anything she can use to keep things dry. (plastic bags, etc)
If she has any games they can play in the tent or at a shelter, cards, etc....that is nice.........tell her to hone up on her ghost stories too.....
They will still have fun..........just being together, and finding things to do in the rain, or with the rain.......
Don't worry Mom, she will be just fine.........
Take care.
Rain at camp is not a huge deal. It happens every summer and counselors know how to manage. You can definitely have fun in the rain and even play in it if it is warm enough. There are lots of songs and games that can be played as well.
I was a girlscout for 20 years and a sleep away camp counselor for 5 summers. The camp I went to had a suggested packing list including raingear, an extra pair of shoes and 2-3 long sleeve tops. Usually a long sleeve t-shirt, fleece and sweatshirt are good together since you can layer if it is colder and the fleece dries fast. You can also put the layers under a raincoat. Also if you put a plastic garbage bag inside a duffle bag and sleeping bag's bag everything inside stays dry. At the camp I went to there was some extra bedding for emergencies and a washer/dryer if someone got their sleeping bag drenched or something.
