I have it. And Hashimoto's and hypothyroid are not synonymous. Hashimoto's is just one cause of hypothyroidism, so you can be hypothyroid without having Hashimoto's.
No, you're not "overreacting" -- it's a simple blood test to diagnose this, and there is no reason for your doctor not to do it.
If you were hypothyroid many years ago, I don't understand why all of a sudden you would be "cured." I will be taking my pills for life, most likely.
Maybe your new doctor thought you didn't have it because you had been taking pills so your thyroid level was still normal when you were tested? Or did he/she test you before declaring you "normal?"
Just get another blood test. Yes, it's quick and easy. The doctor should know the relevant tests. TSH, thyroid antibodies (for Hashimoto's), and T-4 or T-3, I think they usually are. Something like that.
