Has This Election Changed Your Views on Anything? How Has It Effected You?

There are some people I know that I did not know were against equal civil rights, it has really made me see them in a different light.

I guess I was shocked to find out how many of my friends literally are voting for a candidate over ONE issue.

They are not looking at the really big issues, like the economy, foreign policy, voting records, borrowing money, balancing the budget, etc etc etc

They are voting on whether a candidate supports gay marriage or not...which is ridiculous to me becasue a president no matter what they believe in is going to get that handled at a national level. It is going to be a state by state issue.

Or if the candidate is pro-choice or pro-life...

Etc etc etc...

One single issue does not make me vote one way or the other...I just wish people would look at the big picture and the whole candidate not just the ONE issue closest to their heart.

Some of my friends are dems. I have been attacked on many occasions because I am not. I never talk about politics with them because our views are so opposite. I have been reamed on my own FB page-and I know so little of how FB works that it's embarrassing-and I only got FB to see pictures of my Grandchildren-so the attacks, infuriate me-especially since I don't mind identifying myself with the party who "thinks", shares my mindset and has , quite frankly, always served the greater good-since Lincoln, for God's sake. I'm old-I will never vote outside my party-and I don't vote "single issue". I'll tell you what I just did, I voted for Governor Romney, I voted for Bongino-who is running for a US Senate seat in Maryland; but I am progressive in my thinking and I voted for same-sex marriage in Maryland. We've got to come into the 21st century-why not now? I will also say this, of the people that I know that are democrats-they are all wealthy-none of what has happened in the last four years has impacted them at all-it's been nothing to them and has decimated my world.

I hate the damn telemarketers. You want my vote? Stop interrupting my dinner!

I feel less passionate about this election, than any other before. My faith in our system is shattered. I'll be voting on local stuff...public power, charter schools, local government. In general, I've come to despise politics. Me personally? I'd rather spend my time actually participating in civil society, rather than hearing someone else talk around in circles.

During elections on FB I adjust my Social Fixer application/add-on so that it hides most political status updates by identifying keywords used. It allows me to remain friends with family and friends all year long.

It's changed my views on my church. We're Catholic and won't go back until after the election.

I started really paying attention to politics in 2003. I just heard a news story and was like, what, is that legal? Then started reading and understanding. So the interest is nothing new and my views have always been fluid so I can't say the election changed my view.

The discussions have changed. In 2004 I could talk to anyone and the conversation always stayed on issues. 2006 was the same and even 2008 wasn't too bad until Obama got the nomination. In January I could say but don't you think the Democrats are spending too much? and would reasons for or against. Same comment in October the first response from a liberal, you are a racist! Holy heck!

So the only real difference is that for whatever reason the Democrats have decided to foster a we and they attitude. I have never seen such a divided country and that disturbs me the most. We no longer discuss issues, we attack each other on a personal level. Kool aid drinking, stupid, racist, heartless, you name it people call each other that.

How are we supposed to fix anything when no one is listening to the other person?

Oh, I was joking with a coworker that I was sick of the political mail from either side so I was going to start writing, refuse return to sender, on all of it. She thought that was a brilliant idea and is planning on doing that! Yikes!!

Same coworker was going to vote straight Dem until she found out that McCaskill donated to the Akin campaign through one of her PACs of couse because she knew she could beat Akin but not the other two. I was going to vote for Nixon until watching for the millionth time his ad of pure, proven lies, about his opponent.

Everyone has their own beliefs and who they will vote for.
There is no point in fighting about it, certainly not among friends or family. Ideally, it is hoped that people each have their own opinions, but that it should not be used as "weapons" against others nor for a sense of supremacy or making others feel stupid.

To each his/her own.

Most people, have their decisions made... About the election and who to vote for. If a person is at peace about their own choice, there is no reason to denigrate others for it. Unless, they are personally attacked for having a different view. But the choice... to attack the attacker for critiquing one's choice... is a choice.

I agree the system is broken, and it's seems nearly impossible to fix it. I want to vote for a candidate that says, "It doesn't matter what I believe, because it's not my job to vote on my beliefs. It's my job to represent yours.".
Isn't that what our congressmen are supposed to do? Represent our interests? Why aren't there more votes about what we want? How we spend the money? Back when this government was established, the masses needed to rely on the educated to do what was best for them, because there were many who couldn't read or write. We are a much more educated society now, and it's time for a revamp in how politics works. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get that done? :)

if you want a real political debate, and not a room full of rich men "playing politics", then you need to check out Gary Johnson, after careful review, and fact checking, i can tell you that Gary Johnson has a much clearer view of things then " the favorites". both obama and mitt keep saying," we need to get tough with china, and we need to encourage American businesses", but neither one of them wear clothes that were made here! how can they both say "we need to encourage American businesses", if neither one of them are willing to do it!Gary Johnson actually welcomes people to ask him questions, unlike some politicians that send out a "truth team" to handle questions from"the public".if i wanted to be talked down to, i would resurrect my mother in law.

So what if someone bases their decision on ONE POINT of a candidate? Maybe that is their 'deal breaker" point.

Retta S., maybe that one point is their BIGGER ISSUE.

Let whoever wants to vote for a candidate do so for whatever their REASON or reasons may be.

I want to sue all parties for telephonic harassment.
The snail mail spam I get is fine - it goes right into my recycling bin.
The television commercial hype hasn't bothered me - I don't have the tv on much anyway.
I do not go out of my way looking for politics online, so it does not bother me there.
But I work from home and my home number is my business number and the robo and poll calls have just gotten WAY out of hand.
If I based my vote on which party has pissed me off the least (the more calls I get from you the madder I get), then I'd have to vote democrat because the NRC has been calling me sometimes 10 times a day.
It makes me think they are feeling really insecure.
They say this is an effective campaign technique - getting the message out there, keeping the issues in peoples minds.
I'm sorry but getting nagged by anyone just makes me want to punch something.
Their technique is losing me and they really need to cut it out.
I can not WAIT till this election is over.
