Has Molars, All the Sudden Chewing on Things?

My son (27 months) has had all his teeth including 2 year molars for many months now. He got his 2 year molars probably 10 months ago. He was a very early teether. These past two weeks, he is really chewing on things. His toothbrush, his hands, various wooden toys. He hasn't been chewing on things since his molars pushed through. He has never been one to stick things in his mouth, if he wasn't pushing a tooth. He just had a dentist appointment 3 months ago, and the dentist said his teeth are perfect. He doesn't get juice, sugar, or sticky treats...I don't think it could be cavities...especially since just 3 months ago they looked great. It doesn't seem to be a comfort thing, as he chews sporadically throughout the day. Even when he is playing. He's very laid back and easy going, I don't believe it could be anxiety. We dropped the pacifier and bottle over a year ago, so it's not compensating for that.I look in there, and everything looks normal. Is it normal for him to be chewing on things lately, even if he's done teething for a while? Anyone else experience this? I assume it's probably a phase, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

**He talks very well now, and has never fussed about them hurting.

Yes its normal for children to chew on stuff, even up to 4 or 5. That seems odd, I know. My daughter still (4) will at times, put stuff in her mouth. Its not often, but she does. Since his dentist said they are great and he isn't teething, it probably is just the normal kid stuff. Not to worry. I know it isnt your most favorite habit of his Im sure......hang in there, he will stop.

I teach preschool kids and yes, chewing on things is VERY normal! One of the 4 1/2 year olds that I watch was chewing apart a marker today! Lol. It's a sensation that I guess feels good to little kids.

Get him one of the freezer teething toys. My 4 1/2 year old never puts anything in his mouth and doesnt chew on toys but every once in awhile he will get his frozen crab from the freezer and chew on it for awhile. I have no idea why but I let him do it because he takes care of it when he is done. It's only for maybe 20 minutes every 2 weeks.
