Has Anyone Used the Furminator?

I was wondering if anyone has used the furminator on their dog. Does it work? Our dog is a German Shepherd/Shar Pei mix. He has long hair and is extremely furry. He sheds all year long. I comb him regularly (at least once a week), but I literally comb him for about 10 minutes and it doesn't look like I have done anything yet. Thanks. Our carpets and clothing say "thank you" too.

I had a cat that was an insane shedder. I sued the ferminator on her and it was fine - it got A LOT of hair out. A TON!! But, it didn't seem to reduce her shedding AT ALL. I took her to a groomer and they shaved her and she loved it. The groomer said some animals just shed more than others, she had a cat like that too, and she shaved her too.

I don't have one, but I talked with someone who swears by it. He said that there's a knockoff (cheaper) that does NOT work well, but that the real one is worth the extra money.

I have a Border Collie and a German Sheppard and the furminator does work! You would still have to use it every week, but it gets so much more hair than traditional brushes. Worth the price!

We have one and love it. We have 2 long haired border collie/ aussie shepard mix dogs that shed like crazy (does everyone on here have this type of dog?) One is black and white, one is tri-color, so their hair shows up on EVERYTHING!!!

This past summer, I spent about 10 minutes on each dog and pulled about 5 lbs of hair off of each one. To be funny, I piled the hair up in my husband's office and he came in and freaked out- he thought it was a racoon or something! LOL!

By the way, Target now carries the Furminator.

The furminator does work well. I prefer curry combs though. They are cheaper and work better on most dogs.

It's awesome! I use it on my black lab and my cats. Even from my lab I get a lot of fur! I'm sure it will do wonders on your german sheperd.

Hi Z.,
We used the "Furminator Wannabe" because the real furminator was more then I cared to spend on our dogs. I had a cousin who has always been a dog owner recommend the Furminator to us so I figured we'd give it a whirl. We were really impressed with the amount of fur that came out and how easy it was to clean the brushes. The dog hair didn't seem to tangle coming out of the dog either. I would recommend buying the wannabe to save yourself some bucks. Blessings, L.

I love the Furminator! I bought a new one from eBay a few years ago and got a great deal on it. My cat loves it too! Whenever she hears me open the drawer to get it out she comes running! The Furminator takes off more fur than anything else I have ever used. It was recommended to me by my mom and her and my dad have had as many as 3 dogs and 2 cats at their house! You've got to get it! Make sure to get the largest one for your dog.

The Furminator worked wonders on our Saint Bernard. We were just like you- normal brushes helped a little, but he still had huge chunks of fluffy winter fur falling all over the carpet until we used the furminator. It grabs the fine little shedding hairs underneath that a normal brush doesn't.

Another lady suggested brushing outside- if it's windy, though, you'll have massive hair chunks to chase around your yard for a month- it really removes that much.

We have two German Shepherds and we use it all the time on our dogs. It gets a TON of hair off of them and really helps to reduce the shedding. Don't get me wrong, they still shed a lot, but I suppose if we used it more often we wouldn't see as much shedding. I suggest using it at least once a week. Either way, you'll notice a huge decrease in the hair you find around the house.

FYI - Walmart has a generic brand of the furminator that is much cheaper. I haven't used that one, but probably would have given it a try if I'd found that one first. The blades look exactly the same to me.

We have a yellow lab . The furminator is great and our dog actually enjoys being brushed with it. He looks very sleek after we brush him and it does cut down on the shedding.

Z. - I use the furminator on my kitty that is long haired and thick. I love it and so does she. It is so worth the money. I alternate between that and a ZoomGroom.

Hi Z.,

We love our Furminator! We have a Golden Retiever and it gets tons of hair off of him. Even the under coat! Just be careful not to brush in the same spot to much per brushing. It is very sharp and can rub the skin raw. Ouch! Definately worth the money!

We have used the Furminator shampoo and rinse on our Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix. She has two major sheds a year. It seems to accelerate the shed so that we can pull the shedding hair off and get rid of it before it gets all over the house. We have been very happy with it.

I agree furminators are a great tool, worth the investment. Make sure you furminate out side and don't do it after giving your dog a bath. You will take seemingly pounds of hair off your pouch, just in time for the holidays!

I have not. We have a boarder collie/aussie mix (fur, fur, fur....!!!). After trying many things (not this) I now cut him (not shave) as short as they can - about 1/2 inch. It makes a huge difference in the hair around the house. Also, my husband is very allergic to the dog and this has helped those as well.
Good luck!

We use ours on our cats and dog, and we get kittens and puppies off of them. We do have a lab/golden mix, so I can't speak to different coats. It is a great tool though.

I use the Furminator on my big Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix and it really works! I started out combing him twice a week and was amazed at all the hair that it picks up! It does take me 10 minutes or more, but it really shows with all the balls of hair you remove. This reminds me that I need to be more regular in combing!

Yes! It is a wonder tool, however, there are a couple of precautions I'd like to mention. We have a short hair dog (Shar Pei/Red Heeler) and if we comb her in one place for too long, she gets bald spots. That is how well it works! So, just watch how long you comb in one place. One other precaution, careful not to drop it or bang it up against anything. We broke 2 teeth off of ours and once we did that, the place where the teeth were missing actually cut our dog. Had to buy a new one. Good luck to you and your family!

Yes, indeed it works! I didn't want to spend $50 (at the time) on a dog brush but my husband insisted. It works wonders and we have a golden so not quite as hairy as your dog. Its worth it.
