The weight loss center I go to uses the medifast diets. Really it is a sensible diet. The drinks etc...that you use are just a means to help your body not loose muscel, which is a problem when dieting. I have found that when I use a product that cost money, I am more likely to stay on it cause I do not want to waste my money. I also have someone that helps keep me accountable when I go to the center and weigh in. That helps me a lot. If you are a person that is very self disiplined then perhaps you don't need this. I am not :( however I did with the help of this diet keep my weight off for 3 years, then life just got in the way and I got off of my disiplined eating and well needless to say I gained the weight back. I just did not eat right, and had little time for exercise.
But to answer your question, it DOES work. The first 11 days are the hardest and you will want to stop. DON'T
Good luck with what ever you do, loosing weight is hard for us women with busy lives.

I used Metifast a few years back and ate tuna and triskets with it and lost about 40 pounds over about 10 months. I've also enjoyed weight loss by eliminating sugar and breads and eating anything else I wanted. Make that carbs instead of breads. With Splenda, anything is possible!
Good luck!

I lost 50 pounds in 2007 (primarily in the first 6 months of the year) - I went from 225 pounds to 175. I didn't use Medifast or any of those diet programs. I used the tools available for free on a website called Calorie Count (http://caloriecount.about.com). You can use the tools to determine how many calories you need to eat every day between now and your goal date to lose the weight. You can log all of your intake (i.e. the food you eat) and all of your "outtake" (i.e. calories spent living and exercising). There are also forums if you have questions or need meal suggestions. I'll tell you from experience that the first 10-14 days are hard but once you get past that threshold, it's so easy. Your stomach gets accustomed to smaller amounts of food, you have more energy and especially in the first two weeks, you'll see the weight come off really quickly.

In my opinion, Medifast and other similiar programs are just really expensive ways to eat better with less caloric intake. I am by no means saying the programs don't work because they do if you follow them but there are cheaper ways to do it. I commend your friend's sister for maintaining her weight even after the program.
I have found a more sensible and less expensive approach. And it is completely Organic too!!
It's a new product called Slimmetry by Nutrilite. According to a clinical test, Slimmetry users on a low-calorie diet lost an average of 5.4 more pounds total body weight and 5.6 pounds total body fat than those taking a placebo.
A friend of mine took it for just one week and lost 5 pounds. It is meant to enhance a sensible diet, not let you eat thousands of calories and still lose weight.
Message me back if you want to talk about it.

Good luck.
