Hi there,
I haven't tried it myself, but from all the reviews that I've read it isn't worth it. The children don't actually learn to read. They memorize words. As a teacher and a mom, I wouldn't recommend it.
Hi everyone I was up at 4:00am this morning helping my husband get ready for work and this infomertial came on about Your Baby Can Read and it caught my attention I took the number down and called about some general questions but I would just like to know have any moms on here tried it and how was the experience? Thanks

I haven't tried it, and from what I've read psychology wise, I would not recommend it. "Rushing early learning harms the brain by overwhelming its neural circuits, thereby reducing the brain's sensitivity to the everyday experiences it needs for a healthy start in life." - Development Through the Lifespan - 5th Edition - Laura E. Berk.
Hi Sonnysmommy. I havent used this program, but I wouldn't recommend it, as other moms have said. Babies can't learn to read. It teaches them to recognize words, but I work in an elementary school and I can tell you, this is not reading. Reading is about phonemic awareness, decoding and comprehension. This program wont' teach those things, and even if it did, it does not benefit a child to enter kindergarten already reading since the entire year's curriculum is based on teaching literacy.
I also agree, I think that thats something that must come naturally, I myself also thought about it but then again if you really think about it why not we the parents just start to read more to our children? And just gradually show them the letters and words and they eventually will catch on.. I have a 2 year old that will literally pick up a book and start pointing at the characters and identifying the characters names, and I and my husband also read to all 3 of our children, I think its a total waste of money and I also truely believe that a child will learn when his/her time is right....
I have been using it for a while now. She DOES recognize which words are which when using the flash cards. She also learned her body parts and the songs that they sing. I really like the program. So what that they don't actually learn to read but it does help in getting them to talk and learn other things. My daughter actually asks me to put the videos on for her. Expensive ----Yes it is but I have noticed that she is talking alot more since we started the videos. It makes it easier for me to teach her things. When I was doing it myself she didn't seem to be catching on. But since the videos she is learning more and more everyday. Everyone has their own opinion and the have a right to it but my personal opinion... I like it. My friend is doing it with her children and the older one that is four is doing great. The younger one is doing that same as my daughter. Talking more and more everyday. Good luck!
They've used it or something similar to teach dogs to read. It's pattern recognition and babies are sponges so given enough exposure, they probably will soak up all the words on the flashcards/video, but I don't believe they would process it and transfer that knowledge to a new word they hadn't been exposed to before. I think the time would be far better spent reading lots of real books to your child and building an enthusiasm for stories and reading, something more likely to inspire creativity and desire for learning.
one of my daycare parents bought it off ebay and so I agreed to watch it and try it out with the kids. It was so boring, and totally would NOT teach your child to read anymore then showing them a word over and over would - just won't
Children need lots and lots of play in their preschool years. Drilling on academic learning actually works against young kids. The spontaneous, joyful process of learning no longer belongs to the child, but to the parents. Bad news. Please don't do it.
DO read to your child. This increases their vocabularies, familiarity with grammar rules, and imaginations. All of these are terrific ways to prepare children for reading and loving books themselves.
I have not seen it in person, but have seen the commercials. It looks like it teaches your baby to memorize words, but that is not really how kids learn to read. They need to know phonics. If you want to teach your baby to recognize certain words, I think that is what it will do. I have heard many experts recommend letting them learn to read naturally, when they are ready.
Good luck,

Ok well I actually got suckered in and bought the darn thing...NOT WORTH IT 8-) It just repeats the words over and over again. Very boring. My son wasn't at all interested in it. The videos are budget too. If you want go make a home movie and make your own flash cards..It's the same thing. Not a quality production.
Also, for it to REALLY work you have to sit there every day and drill it into your kids. Not fun. You child will learn at the proper pace. Don't force it or waste the money like I did 8-)
