Yes, I bought Bare Mineral las summer and love it. I was a very dedicated MaryKay person(still use skin care products). However they MaryKay now has a mineral line too. Haven't tried it yet. I know I will when I run out of my Bare MInerals.
I recently have gotten a sample of Purity Minerals foundation and blush. I have been experiencing increased acne outbreaks...
Have any of you experienced similar problems with the mineral make-up? I like the product's results.. Just don't like dealing with the zits! I don't know if this is unusual or not.

Hi C.. Not all mineral make up is created equal! You may want to try Arbonne's mineral make up. Arbonne offers the only cosmetics line endorsed by the American Modeling Association. All their makeup is hypoallergenic, ph correct, mineral oil-free, and wonderful. Write me at ____@____.com if you are interested.
YES! I tried Bare Escentals (sp?) b/c a friend of mine loved it. Before I started using it--from the time I was a teenager--I had wonderful skin with only an occasional pimple around that time of the month. After using this, I broke out really bad all over my forehead (where I had never had any issues). I took it back and have not tried anything else mineral based.
The same thing happened to my mom, so maybe it's a hereditary reaction?
I don't use mineral make-up but I plan on trying some soon. I have, however, read a lot about mineral makeups on another board that I read and have heard that when people have a reaction to the mineral makeup, it is because of the bismuth oxychloride in the makeup. Not all mineral makeups contain bismuth oxychloride such as Everyday Minerals but some do (i. e. Bare Minerals) (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/128629/everyday_....
You may want to check your mineral make-up to see if it contains the bismuth oxychloride.
I use the mineral make-up from Physician's Formula and have not had any breakouts. I have noticed though that I have to cleanse my face with a very mild cleanser or soap before using the make-up otherwise I'll get tiny red pimples on my nose and cheeks. Not sure if it has to do with the make-up but I didn't have that problem when I used regular make-up. I do use cleanser, toner and moisturizer products from Kohl's line "good skin" and absolutely love them. They prepare the skin for the make-up, are very light and I can hardly feel the make-up on my skin.
Hi! I typically do not have any blemishes but have fair skin. I loved the coverage from the Minerals however after trying a few different mineral formulations experienced increased acne. At first, I thought it was the brand so I switched to Bare Minerals then thought perhaps the moisturizer but even after stopping their moisturizer, my skin continued to react and break out from the minerals. I do not break out while using Physician's formula. I agree with Natalie, the pressed powder and bronzers are wonderful. Avoid the loose powder because they do not cover as nicely.
Good luck!
I use a combination of the new Avon mineral makeup and the I.D. bare escentuals. I love them both. I think the Bare escentuals is better quality but the Avon is way cheaper so I use them together. I get the more expensive foundation powder and the cheaper finishing powder. No problem with breakouts. Good luck!
I'm using Bare Minerals and have no issues with breakouts. I also take very good care of my skin too.....Avon Chemical Peel twice a week and Mary Kay Microderm once a week.
One friend could not use Minersal makeup as it would burn her face if she sweat. Maybe you are allergic to something in the makeup.
BISMUTH OXYCHLORIED may just be the problem. It is in MANY of the mineral makeups (it is a mineral they use as a filler)
It causes acne in some people (me too....I've tried them all from drug store to luxury brands!! I found out about the mineral many dollars later!!) Please look up the "bad" mineral and the company Larenim (mineral spelled backward) They are wonderful!!! I don't break out with any of their foundations, concelers, blushes, bronzers (I love it all) They can be found local too, email me and I can tell you where I find it when I need refills :-)
C.,
I have used Jane Iredale's pure pressed powde base for 5 years and never had a problem with it. The powder base is design to NOT settle in your pores like most foundations and I think that it what make the difference. I have even used another brand and saw the samw results. I think the trick is to find something that does not settle in your pores such as a powder based foundation instead of a cream. I get mine off this website; www.skinwest.com and they sale several brands of all mineral makeup.
Yes, I tried the Bare Essentials and my face broke out and it made my face itch. I never really have much acne except during my time of the month and started getting ones that just seemed like they would NEVER go away. I stopped using it and have went back to Cover Girl pressed powder. I won't buy expensive make-up anymore for fear of it doing the same thing. Good luck to you.
Hi C., I have tried and now use the Mineral makeup from MaryKay. I use the loose powder, blush and eye color. I love it. I am a MaryKay rep. if you are in need of any products please let me know. I would never recommend something I myself have not used. I love the coverage.
I hope this helps you in someway.
Thanks, P. Anderson
I use Mary Kay Mineral loose powder foundation. My face has actually been clearer than when I have used liquid foundation. I get complements from my mom-friends on my make-up all the time since I switched.
I have tried a couple of mineral makeups, bare minerals and others. So far my favorite is physician formula(you can find it at walmart etc) the pressed powder I also tried the loose powder they make and did not like it. It is definately worth checking out it is not as expensive as some of the others and I like it better.
I use Bare Minerals (bare escentuals) and I love it. It doesn't cover quite as well as the infomercial but it is still good and feels like you are not wearing make-up.
I have tried Sheer Cover too and think that it is nice sometimes (but it can get a bit shiny looking, so it isn't good for everyday use) the cover up with that works well, but I don't know how natural it is.
Currently use Bare Minerals, and love it! It actually has helped the breakouts!
Hi C.. I use Bare Essentials that I purchase from Beachwood
Mall. I tried them many years ago when the only way to purchase in this area was through the mail. I love the look they provide as well. I have never experienced an outbreak of acne from the make-up. A lot of companies offer mineral make-up now. You could try a different brand. Mary Kay, Origins, Nicole Miller, etc. Good Luck!

I started using the Bare Escentuals makeup a little over a year ago and I love it. I would never use any other kind of makeup. I have very oily skin with large pores and I would always get breakouts from using liquid makeup. After I started using the Bare Escentuals mineral makeup, my face cleared up and I don't notice my oily skin and I hardly ever have breakouts anymore. Plus the makeup looks so much better and the blush and eyeshadow blend better than anything else I have every tried. I don't know where you live, but there is a Bare Escentuals store in Kenwood mall and they will put the makeup on you and you can try it first.
I went to a fancy spa VIP party (got the invite at a bridal show my sister took me too)... while I was there I spoke with one of the makeup artists and asked her what she thought of mineral makeup. she said alot of times it does cause people to break out. I guess this is a pretty common thing. It appears you are one of those people to have that reaction. I wouldn't go along with those mary kay ladies telling you to try thier products, I would just can the mineral makeup all together.
Hi C.,
I've been using makeup from EverydayMinerals and I like it. You can get free samples on their website, and the sample sizes are generous. :)
My Dermatologist said not to use these as they cause break outs. The minerals are so tiny - they get into your pores easily and clog them up.

I want to stress that some people are prone to acne and some people are not. I use GloMinerals foundation and I can not believe the difference. I get more compliments on my skin than I ever have because the coverage is so good. I am a fair complicted blonde with very bad skin and you would never know it. I think you can buy it on line but I get it from a dermatologist office on Bethel Rd. Dr. Villabolos and I forget the name is their skin clinic. They also do lots of cosmetic procedures there as well. Good luck
Some women break out more because the particle size is so finely micronized, they can sink into the pores and cause them to become clogged unless a rigid cleansing regimen and masks are used to keep the pores free of pigment debris. Mineral makeup can make the skin “dirty” with continued use if skin is not properly cleansed. It can also make the skin more oily due to the heavier nature of the base ingredients.
*When introducing yourself to mineral makeup, apply sparingly and always with a powder brush to determine the best coverage for you. Remember…a little goes a long way.
*When using a mineral makeup, a clay based mask is recommended on a weekly basis to help purge the pores of debris.
*Apply sparingly with a powder brush and layer more foundation as needed to reach the desired application.
I use BeautiControl Mineral Makeup. It is free of parabens, oil, alcohol, talc, fillers, fragrance, and chemical dyes. It doesn't have bismuth oxychloride like some of the posts below talk about.
It's dermatologist, sensitivity and allergy tested and is non-comedogenic. It's suitable for sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea and acne prone skin. It contains a natural, all physical sun protection - SPF 15. Check it out on my website, www.beautipage.com/jbrewer. I love it!

I've been using Bare Minerals for about 2 years now, and my skin is much clearer with it than with regular make up. I buy it through the mail and it's really not as expensive as you would think, because you don't use very much at a time.
I started using it last winter and I think it's the best thing since sliced bread! I have very oily skin and mineral powders have high oil obsorbing properties along with the added benefits of the anti-oxidents that are good for your skin. (Plus, it's so quick and easy for our busy lifestyles!) There should not be anything in it that would cause you to break out. I'm not familiar with the brand you've tried, but I would suggest trying a different brand. I do sell Mary Kay so that's what I would recommend trying. It has the added benefit of being 100% satisfaction guaranteed so you have nothing to lose to try it. If you're in the Cleveland/Akron area, you can contact me, ____@____.com, or you can go to the Mary Kay website and find a consultant in your area. Hope that helps.
C.....I have been using Mary Kay mineral makeup and I don't find that it breaks my face out. I guess every company now has some sort of mineral makeup. They all have different ingredients. Why don't you try Mary Kay? I am a Mary Kay Consultant and if you would like I could send you a sample.
I like the Barescensuals (may not be spelled right!) brand as seen on QVC. As other posts have noted, much of the "mineral makeup" out there is not pure minerals, but can contain talc and binders and other potentially irritating ingredients. Everyone's skin reacts differently, and it can be hard to pinpoint the cause of acne. Eliminate anything you have been using that is different from your normal routine, one product at a time, giving each a few days to see how you react. Also consider changes in medication and hormones as possible culprits. Even a different shampoo has been known to break out facial skin around the hairline. The zinc oxide in most pure mineral foundations should actually help keep skin clear, and there is no reason it should clog your pores if it is pure minerals. This is my professional opinion as a licensed esthetician.
I use the "American Beauty" Perfect Mineral Powder Makeup from Kohls and I have not had any break outs (but I also don't wear it everyday except the summer). It cost about $25, but if you watch their sales you can get it cheaper, mine cost about $17. I have not used the Pure Minerals that are on TV on info-commericials, I am afraid to even know what that cost lol Hope that helps!
