I've used mamasource before and have gotten great advise and responses. Now I'm back wondering if anyone has made a tutu for their daughter. My daughter is turning one the end of May and would like to make my own. Basically need to know how much material and what materials are needed along with the directions. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them and would love to hear how you have made yours. Thanks in advance!!!!

I just wanted to add that she told me that she gets her tulle at Nashvillewraps.com, and that it is already cut into strips. So, it saves a step of cutting.
The other thing that might work is the tulle that is used for parties, or weddings because it's on a roll.
They are pretty easy. You get net and attach it to a thick ribbon and either tie ribbon as bow to fit or you fold it and put elastic in it. You can stitch on flowers or other items if you want. Or you can get net and fold it over and put flowers in it that bounce around. Additionally, there are lots of really cheap ones for sale at target. making your own won't save any money but it can be fun.
I make tutu's for my girl's and parties they attend. I use a simple method, that is quick (which I need with 3 kids under 5), and it gives you a fun-full tutu.
Use a piece of 1/2"-1" elastic and measure it around your daughter's waist. Make sure to stretch it a bit or it will fall off when it is completed. You can hand stitch the elastic to the size you need, or run it thru the sewing machine so you have a circle.
Then I take tulle about 1 yard would be good for your daughter, you can choose 1 or more colors (possibly rainbow is cute). Lay the fabric on a hard surface, it will be folded and cut strips about 3-4 inches wide, then cut at the fold. You may be able to cut in half one more time since your daughter is only one. I usually make these for little girls between 3-6. Then take the strips and tie in one knot around the elastic until you have filled the entire waist band.

I haven't made one yet (will be making quite a few for my daughter's 3rd birthday party!), but my aunt made one for my daughter. It is super easy! Get a piece of elastic a tad smaller than your daughter's waist and sew together. Then buy tulle in 2 different colors. Measure strips of tulle double the length of the tutu you want and tie the strip around the elastic. Continue around the elastic alternating colors. I can send a picture if you want one.
