Has Anyone Had Experience W/their Child Having Teeth Pulled/tongue Clipped?

I don't know about the teeth, but my son is tongue tied too. He is 7 years old now and ever since he was a baby doctors and dentists have been telling me to get his tongue clipped. My standard response has always been "As soon as I notice that he NEEDS it, I'll do it." He breastfed for 9 months (only stopping by my choice), has perfect speech, and he's lost 3 teeth on bottom and they are all straight so far. So, my advice is this: if your daughter is having a problem that is caused by the tongue-tying then I'd get it fixed. If not, why try to fix what ain't broken?
Oh, and as far as the teeth growing in, that just happened to my son and it just caused the baby tooth to get pushed out... I think it's pretty normal. But your concerns are valid because you're her mom, so you do what you feel comfortable with no matter what any of us say! Good Luck!!

When my first child was a baby and sitting on his great-grandma's lap, she pronounced, "This kid needs his tongue clipped." I just laughed and thought, "What an outdated thing to say."

1st grade through 4th grade, my son could not pronounce his "R"s. They had him with the speech therapist at least once a week. He practiced and practiced his list of words, but still had trouble. When he got to Intermediate School in 5th grade and met his NEW speech therapist, the first day she told me, "In order to say "R", your tongue must be able to touch the roof of your mouth. His tongue can't reach. Take him to have it clipped." We went the next day to a pediatrician she recommended. I thought we were just going in for a consult. The doctor looked in his mouth, sprayed in some banana-flavored stuff, and . . . Without even giving me a chance to know it was going to happen . . . CLIP!!! It was OVER. NO stitches needed. My child was saying his R's the next day and never needed speech therapy again. I should have gone back to the elementary school speech therapist and inform her of the easy correction she had missed for 4 YEARS . . . but I didn't. I also should have listened to GREAT GRANDMA!

I don't have any experience with my kids having this done but I had my tongue clipped when I was 19 the same time I had my wisdom teeth removed. I had stitches under my tongue but I don't remember it hurting, just a little uncomfortable and have to be careful with it for about a week...

Your daughter shouldn't feel pain after the procedure, especially if you keep her on Tylenol for a couple days after. I hope this helps!

My 6 year old son has the teeth issue. He hadn't gotten any loose teeth and the bottom center ones were coming in so I rushed him to the dentist and she assured me that this is fairly common and he just needs to start wiggling the baby teeth. When they come out, the new teeth will move into position. Well, with the help of his little sister and the trampoline, she knocked one of the teeth loose for him and has since come out and the new tooth is in fact moving into correct position. If you are truly concerned I would suggest a trip to your dentsit for reassurance.

My daughter is 9 and has yet to lose any teeth on her own. She's had 8 or 9 pulled for the same reason, either because the one behind is growing in already or the ones next to those to make room in hopes the one growing behind will move up more. We went to a pedi dentist for all except the last one and it was great. No pain, tears, nothing but a numb mouthed drooling kiddo afterwards :) Last one we had to go to a regular dentist because our ins changed and it was bad...she bawled (she rarely EVER cries over anything) and was shaking and kept saying how it hurt. So if you can I'd go to someone who specialized in pediatric dentistry.

My teeth were the same whn I was growing up, I had at least 1/2 of the pulled for the same problems. I don't know about having the tongue clipped, I had mine pierced at 18..not quite the same but it was just sore for about a week.
