Happy Holidays Moms,
Has anyone had a successful tubal reversal, if so what was the procedure like (do I actually have to be sliced and diced again through my c-section scar?) and what are the chances of conceiving? I had no problem conceiving the 1st time we got preggo immediately. I plan on revisiting my ob/gyn after the New Year but would like some honest women opinions (since my Dr is a male). I am having that 'urge', and no it is not indigestion :) I am 38 and thought with being so miserable during pregnancy (nothing major just was grumpy and puffy and blah) and with my age that I did not want anymore children. My husband was on board with the decision and is now on board again... except I have to move out of state to live with my Dad during the pregnancy (ha ha kidding, I wasn't that bad...ok I was....) So any stories/opinions would be appreciated! Thanks Moms!

I had a tubal reversal in May 2001. I was told that it takes many women about 2 years after a reversal to conceive & that I was "lucky"!
I had a fantastic doctor who was my gyn & also specialized in the procedure. He became my ob as well!
He made an incision around the "bikini line", similar to the c-section incision. Since you have had a c-section before I do not know if they use the same procedure. I am thinking more so about scar tissue in the same area. Then again, you just had a baby, so how much scar tissue can there be? I would talk to the dr... It was painful when I would get up from bed, so I has to get up sideways. With your c-section I am assuming you experienced the same problems. Any more questions? Do not hesitate to ask!

Ciao! E.

I used to work for a doctor that reversed vasectomies. It depends how the ligation was done in the first place as to how successful it will be reversed as well as how long ago the tubal ligation was done since adhesions can set in. It involves microscopic surgery which takes a while and you are under anesthesia for the whole time (which can be a while). The reason doctors give such low success rates is due to all the variables involved. They can't make too many promises because everyone's body heals at different rates as well as all the people that threaten them with law suits when they can't work miracles.
There is also the option (you would have to ask) of in-vitro insemination by extracting viable eggs from you.

I have not personally had it done, but a very close friend of mine did, and went on to have a little girl a year ago. I don't think that it took that long for her to concieve either.
I hope the best for you!

Hi Christina,
I have never had it done, but my understanding is that they are pretty successful. My mother is an OR nurse and has seen several procedures. I think they do have to cut you open like they do for a c-section - they should be able to do it endoscopically or with a very minor procedure. Here is a good article - it says the success rates are 30-70% depending on a whole bunch of factors.

Christina,

I haven't had the procedure done, but I asked the same question probably about a month ago on here and didn't get any response from anyone. But I VERY much want another baby and I had my tubes tied almost 3 years ago after my son was born. He was born Feb of 2005 and I had my tubes tied Apr of 2005. I have been having the "itch" for quite some time ago, and just like you, at the time I thought FOR SURE that I didn't want anymore kids (by the way, I already have 3, but I still have the itch) But anyway, I have looked into a couple of places, and it seems like they really don't do tubal reversals here in PA, unless you know of anyone, please let me know. I too am going to go to my ob/gyn to talk about it, but I have to go back to the one that actually did my tubal (I since changed obs because he moved up to where Grand View Hospital when he used to be with Doylestown)
Anyway, if you find anything out, please let me know, as I would like the procedure done as well.
Good Luck! Sorry I couldn't be anymore help.

Jen
