Has Anyone Had a Baby Who Threw up Bad Still at Eight Months Old?

My son is eight months old and since he was about three weeks/a month old he has thrown up a lot. Just to clarify not spitting up. This is serious throwing up, probably three ounces of every six he eats. He has always gained significant weight because we feed him often enough that the doctor did not do anything for it, but in this last week he has been shooting milk out of his nose and chokes a little because he doesn't know not to inhale it. I called my doctor today and they finally said they could put him on a medication for this. I am curious if anyone else has experienced this. It is so embarrassing when my son throws up on people and their white carpets. Green and orange very bad. Please any advice from moms who have experienced this.

My grandson had this same issue. The Dr's did put him on antacids for a short time because it started to become painful for him. Yet this is a waiting game, everyone said that it is more typically a "boy" thing and that around a year old it would stop. I do understand how you must feel, because I would watch my grandson during the day while my daughter was at work and some days I was lucky just to have shirts, pants and spit cloths by the end of the day. It will get better after the year mark it seems like a long way away when your son is only eight months, but my grandson is now 15 months and we rarely have a small spit up and haven't had the projectile puke in months. Hang in there it will get better.

Hi K.,

My son had GERD (gastroesophageal Reflux a.k.a acid reflux) and was given Zantac syrup. I don't recall at what age we stopped giving it too him, but he was on it since he was an infant. My son was a preemie so his pediatrician said that the sphincter muscle was not fully developed yet to keep his food from coming back up.
Keep your son in an upright position after eating, do not let him lie down. This might help keep the food down. Your son should eventually outgrow this.

My daughter also showed signs of GERD, but after a few months, I noticed it was probably due to her eating too much. Her tummy was just too small for all the milk she was drinking, and since I nursed both kids, I think they didn't want to stop even if they had enough, because they loved the nurturing :)

Make sure you address all your concerns with your pediatrician and keep a log of when your son spits up (how many minutes after a meal). I was blessed to have such an excellent pediatrician for my son. He had me keep records and we went over the records together and he was able to diagnose GERD right away.

My daughter case was so severe that she lost almost 2 pounds and spent 10 days in the hospital until they were able to get her to atleast keep some of the formula down. She is now 2 yrs old and you would not believe that she was as sick as she was. Her doctor can't believe she is the same child due to the drastic change in her. She was diagnosed with "Severe Infant Acid Reflux and she also had a "Lazy lower esophageal sphincter valve." When the Lower Esophageal Sphincter Valve does not work properly and you are feeding your baby (formula, water, juice) they will vomit (even projectile) most of what you fed them shortly after the feeding is done because the valve does/unable to close properly so the formula comes back up because has no where else to go. After trial and error on several medications I decided one day to give her a little solid table food (at 7 months) and she has NOT vomitted since!!! I found the cure for her without all the unnecessary medicines. She is now a "fluffy" 2 year old and does not show any signs of ever being sick!! She is healthy and loves food..

My son who is 10 months old was spitting up pretty bad at about that age. He was diagnosed with acid reflex. So our pediatrician recomended feeding him smaller amounts more often, and dont let him lay down for about 30-40 min after he eats.
But i have to tell you the thing that really helped was starting him on solid foods. he hasnt spit up in over a month and i am so glad. We feed him steamed veggies and meat cut up super small and fruits of all kinds. he loves mac n cheese and all other kid friendly foods. I have to say that we probably started him a lil early, but our doctor said it was ok because as long as he can tolerate it than its fine. Baby food is any food you would feed to a child only smashed up. I know that you also need to watch sodium intake when starting solid foods.

Good luck and I hope your lil man gets some releaf soon!!!

Hi, I'm new so I'm not sure if this is going to work or not but I'll try anyways. My daughter started doing the same thing at a week old. She would also stop breathing...scarry. After being in the hospital for a few weeks they told me it was G.E.R.D. a reflux disease. She was put on reglan and zantec. After a year she was completely off meds. The doctors did a probe test to find out. She is now almost two and doing great! It's tough, I wish you the best of luck!

Our daughter threw up, (I know waht you mean) projectile whatever she ate until 5 months. We had her x-rayed for piloric stenosis? She was fine. Finally, the pediatrician said she would grow out of it and she did. All her clothes were stained and we went through so many bibs. She is 30 years old now. She is still very thin, but she doesn't throw up.
