Hi, I am trying to transistion my son from co-sleeping to his own crib. I read a great book about doing this by just letting him play in the crib through out the day for awhile until he get's used to it. Well, he thinks its fun being in there, but he is sticking his feet and arms through the crib and thrashing around so if he falls, one gets stuck in there. He stands and puts his leg through and than falls and that is NOT good. I want to be assure that when I leave him in there to sleep, he is safe as I know he is very very active. I purchased the mesh bumper and that does not work as it's kind of flimsy and he already figured out how to move it. What I am wondering is.. has anyone had any similar experiences and if so, what have you done about it. Someone recommended a crib tent and I have been looking online and they look good from the picture. Very expensive so I want to see if anyone has used one or has any other suggestions. We love our crib tent. We bought it when our oldest was a baby (because we have cats). However, I love it now because it seems safer. All 3 of my daughters are strong and love to climb and the tent gives me more reassurance that they are safe in their cribs.

I have used crib tent for both of my girls and they were great and definitely worth the money. Both of my girls were climbers and it was great and never had problems with them going to sleep. As my older daughter was close to 2 yrs old she figured out how to open it, but then it was time to move her out of the crib and make a space for the other baby.

We used a crib tent for our son since he was such a climber (it also helped with keeping our cats out of his crib). It worked out well and we would use one again if we had another child. I totally recommend it!

Not sure who gave advice to have your son play in the crib first but that's a big mistake.
Children need to learn the crib is not for fun, not a toy, not for punishment but for naps and nightime sleep only. I'm not an expert, but my daughter was raised with this principle and she sleeps 10 - 12 hours a night straight with no problem and has since she was 6 weeks old or so, so I think the method we were told to use has merit.
This website has a great product to prevent entanglement and getting legs stuck in between crib bars. The CribShield might work better than the bumper. I have the bumper too and I know what you're talking about with your son moving it. My 1 yr old son does that too. :)

I haven't used a crib tent before, but if climbing were an issue for my boys, I would give it a try. Better to keep them safely in the crib than to risk them climbing up and falling to the floor.
