My daughter had it when she was around 4. She wouldn't even lift her head up off the pillow. I would say it took her from the start of it to the end a good 2 weeks to be back to her normal self.

I had that when I was about 16 years old. I think it was about a week before I was back to normal. Please listen to their instructions to rest and drink lots of water. I tried pushing it b/c I hated feeling like that. The day I got home from the hospital, my parents went to get my medication. I got a shower and as soon as I got out, I passed out. Luckily my brother was home to help me.

Hope you start feeling better soon!

A friend's husband had this - I think it was a couple of weeks before he felt better. He stayed in the hospital for a week, I think. Are you okay at home? You know if it get's worse or your fever goes up, you should call your doctor. Eat soup and jello, drink water, decaf green tea or ginger ale. I'm sorry you are sick and hope you get better soon!

I have a friend who had this, we were all so scared! But she felt better within a week and fully recovered quickly. Lots of rest. Sounds like hubby can do the work for awhile!

I had viral spinal meningitis when I was about 23?

It came on me in about half of a day. I had a job interview in the morning, and after that, I was planning to help a cousin paint her kitchen. I went to her house after the interview, and had a slight headache. Took some Tylenol, and said I wanted to just sit for a while until it kicked in, then we could start painting. Well, the headche never got better, it just kept getting worse, and worse, and worse, migraine-ish, I suppose, to the point where the lights were bothering me, any sounds were bothering me, etc. It got to the point where I was kind of talking nonsense to my cousin, calling her the wrong name, saying completely off the wall things, etc. By this point, the lights and sounds were actually causing me physical pain. Of course, at this point, she became concerned and called 911 and my mom and aunt. They rushed over, and the ambulance arrived. By that time, I was crawling to the bathroom to vomit, and so out of it, I was combative, wouldn't agree to go in the ambulance, but was still coherent to a degree, so they couldn't take my without my consent. Finally, my cousin and her boyfriend physically picked my up and put me on the stretcher so the ambulance could take me. I remember asking my mom in the ambulance if we were going to a hospital in Pittsburgh (an hour away, but good hospitals), because I felt like we had been in the ambulance forever, when in fact, the ride to the local hospital, where we were going, was only 10 minutes. I don't remember anything after saying that to my mom, until I woke up in the hospital the next day. In the meantime, they did the spinal tap, which I was told I was screaming in pain for, but I have no recollection of it, or anything else that happened in that timeframe, whatsoever.

When I woke up in the hospital, I felt much better already. They sent me home that day with the diagnosis of viral spinal meningitis. I had terrible headaches from the pressure in my head for about 2 weeks following. They did give me pain meds, but it didn't help the pressure in my head, so they gave me a different kind of medication, especially for that, and it did help.

So that was my very frightening experience. I thought I was dying, had a brain tumor or something like that. It was very scary for everyone. But other than the headaches that lasted for a couple weeks, I've been fine ever since.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

I would suggest you contact your physician and notify him/her about your hospital visit and their diagnosis. Take his advice.

Lots of fluids and rest.
