We are seriously considering replacing our bedroom carpets (all 3 ) with hardwood. My husband and son have allergies, and I THINK this will help considerably. Has anyone done this and noticed a difference? Any words of advice? Thanks :)

What can I do next?

We did and it was a God-send. Carpet can get so nasty. We have no carpet in our house now. My younger son does much better with his allergies, because the floors are easier to keep dust free.

One thing I would research are eco-friendly floors that don't "off-gas" any bad stuff when they're new.

We have the flooring that is real hard-wood, but laid in tiles. Makes it easier to replace one section if there is any damage. We got the "distressed" look so that dings are camoflauged too. So far so good. We are very hard on floors.

We did this (we had hardwoods under our carpets) and it helped a lot. Plus we swiffer under furniture weekly and sweep often. Also we bought an air purifier and it's helped too. It's amazing how much dirty and whatnot gets on the floors weekly.

Yes!!!!

Our daughter had terrible allergies and asthma. Ended up in the hospital with pneumonia..

We now have all hardwood and tile floors.. it is so much better. We also got rid of the drapes. We have blinds and light curtains so they can be cleaned.

We also purchased an electric air filter for her bedroom. I used to have to change the filter every 3 weeks, because of all of the dust and pollens here in the spring and fall.

oh my word! TOTAL difference - like night and day difference!!

hardwoods are soo much easier to keep clean too!! They don't hold the dust and allergens like carpets do!

I agree with the others who posted that wood floors would not cause all the allergens that carpets would. Plus the hardwoods would make your home more updated and valuable should you decide to sell at some point. Best of luck to you. P.S. We lived in Littleton a number of years ago and really miss the Denver area and still keep in touch with a number of friends out there.

I have allergies and my allergist recommended getting rid of carpet. We have laminate flooring in our living room, and I have a couple of minor complaints:

1) The house sounds more empty with a lot of echoing since there is no carpet to help buffer sounds.

2) The house (especially the floors) feel colder without carpet.

I highly recommend using a Norwex mop and avoiding chemical cleaning products. The Norwex mop is simple to use (wet or dry) and handle pivots wonderfully.
