Harry Potter Question. I Know, It Really Is a Parenting Thing Though.

The kids have been invited to go to a HUGE Harry Potter party in a few days. Parents are invited too. Everyone dresses up and it's a great deal of fun. They've been making wands and props and all sorts of things.

Every other adult is dressing up. I have a white 2 piece long dress that I used to wear to the temple but it got makeup on it when I loaned it to someone else to wear as their casual wedding dress. So it has this little spot on it but it's not obvious.

I thought the lady in the white Grecian style dress that sang, attempting to break the fluted glass, was the fat lady that protected Gryffindor wing. But there was the lady in the pink silk dress from a different time period.

So, who is the lady in the white dress? I was thinking it would be an easy character and fun too.

But I don't want to say I'm the wrong character when asked who I am portraying.

And I did google it. I read several sites and it talked about the painting moving and all sorts of things but I never saw a specific thing where it was clear.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Gidget, they are entirely different ladies. Different scenery in the background, different ages, different time periods, everything. That's why I'm confused. I googled it too.

Google images of "Harry Potter the Fat Lady." I found images of her in a white dress and images in a pink dress - which is weird, because I would have thought the people in the portraits didn't change clothes.

She is the character who was singing and trying to break the glass. That scene took place at the beginning of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" - the night the students returned to Hogwarts.

ETA - Same lady (well, character). The pink dress is from "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." The white dress is from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." The character of "The Fat Lady" was played by a different actress. The character of "The Fat Lady" appears in every book but only in those two movies.

It does seem like a major continuity error. The portraits should look pretty much the same in both movies, even with different actresses, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The two movies did have different directors, so that might have something to do with it. But it really doesn't matter why, the fact remains, both of those ladies really are "The Fat Lady."

I know I'm a little late in responding, probably even missed the party, but as an extreme HP fan I can't let confusion happen!

In the first film, the Fat Lady wears a pink dress, but very demur and has no personality. In the third film, the Fat Lady is dressed in the white Grecian gown and has plenty of personality.

In the novels, the Fat Lady that guards Gryffindor Tower wears a pink dress and has a personality. She even occasionally gets drunk with people from other paintings in the castle.

For those who have read both the books and watched the movies, you will notice when Alfonso Cuarón took over directing from Chris Columbus a lot of things changed in the films. For example, Hogwarts suddenly received a choir when one was not present in the books; talking shrunken heads became a feature (again not present in the books); and the Fat Lady changed her wardrobe to wear white instead of pink.

So, to answer your question: the real Fat Lady (book version) wears pink.

But I doubt anyone would quibble with you about your wardrobe choice if you wear the white Grecian gown. :) Just be sure to be sassy and attempt to sing opera at least once.
