Bruce hardwood floor cleaner in dark green spray bottle from Lowes or Home Depot with a dust floor mop. Do not, whatever you do, use the mop-in-glo, orange-glo or any kind of wax cleaner. The build up will ruin the shine over time.
We have recently upgraded to hardwood floor. Any suggestions on how to clean it? What kind of mop is best. What type of cleaner? Any suggestion will be valuable.

I agree with the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner...I had the same question and saw someone suggest it on this site. The cleaner is great and they have a refreasher that you can use up to 4x per year.
Hi S.-
I have hand-scrapped floors throughout my house and we use Bona Kemi, Zepps or Bruce's floor cleaner. Anything that will evaporate fast! My husband owns a hardwood floor company and said to never use water, murphy's oil soap, or any type of steam cleaner. This will eventually damage your hardwoods. Hope this helps!
Our floor company and cleaning service recommend Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. It comes in a spray bottle with a rectangular mop that the pad comes off and goes in the washer. I saw recently they came out with a swifter wet jet type model. You can get it at Elliot's Hardware in Plano.
We have hardwood floors too. I was told by a professional hardwood floor installer/refinisher that you should ONLY use Bona Kemi Hardwood floor cleaner. You can buy it online at www.bonakemi.com. I have found some at Linens n Things. I have also seen it at Ace Hardware. I used to use something else and the professional told me that all other cleaners just leave a dull residue on your floors and are NOT good to use on your hardwood. Bonakemi is expensive, but worth it to protect the large investment in my floors.
S.,
I have a cleaning business and I use a hardwood floor cleaner I buy at Home Depot by the gallon. I pour it into a spray bottle and spray it on the floor and use an applicator that has a washable cover. Before I use the cleaner I clean the floor with a dust mop or a vacuum to remove any loose dirt.
Hope this helps

If your hardwoods are sealed, you can use the Hoover Floormate. It is awesome. I have had mine for years, and with 2 dogs and 2 cats and now a baby, it has had a real workout.
I can't remember the name, but its in a green squirt bottle at Home Depot. Use it with the rectangle terry cloth mop.
Fuller Brush makes a wonderful dust mop and hardwood floor cleaner. Call Vicky Gillispie at ###-###-#### to order these products or you can go to her website www.fullerbrush.net and order from there. Good luck and God Bless!
We were told all you need is a little vinegar and water. Using harsh cemicals will damage and dull the finish. We have used several kinds of mops and they all seem to work.
When we had them were given a harwood floor cleaner (armstrong) to use and bought a dust mop (shaped like a rectangle). You can remove the cloth and wash it. The floor cleaner can be purchsed at any flooring company. My mother uses swiffer for hardwood floors in between cleanings on her floor.
Hi S.,
As I do not like using chemicals in my home to do cleaning with, I found a great product called Basic H, which does not build up on any type of floors (including hard wood floors). This product is sold through Shaklee distributors and if would like more information on this non toxic cleaning product please contact me. G.
I use a steamer on my hardwood floors. I get complimented all the time by my neighbors who also have hardwood floors. I just vacuum up any loose dirt, then steam away. With the steamer there are no chemicals, no soaps, and the steam naturally kills any bacteria that may be lurking on the floor.
We clean ours with a dry mop and muphy's oil. That seems to work the best for all of our wood in the home. We have also used bees wax recently to protect the wood.
Okay... I just read the other responses. I learned quite a bit. I can't believe that they say not to use murphy's oil.
If it's PERGO be warned that water is BAD BAD BAD!!!
On our new pergo I use broom/dust pan or just vacumm on bare floor setting and then-I love the swiffer wet jet with multipurpose cleaner. It works great-is easy and smells fresh. Floor is shiny when I'm through and no worries about water getting in crevices and causing it to swell.
Real hardwood can be dust mopped, swept& mopped, dried and waxed for shine but wax also makes it slippery...so use care!
I thin there is a swiffer wet for hard wood floors.
Hi S., I prefer mop and glow applied with a damp sponge mop. It cleans, conditions, and shines in one easy step without leaving any sticky residue. I only apply this about once every other month to my floors, between times I either swiffer (dry) or push sweep the floors with a stringy push broom like offices use.
When I up graded to wood floors, I used wax instead of poly. and I was told not to use cleaners but only dust mop.
I have dark cherry pergo and I use the swiffer wet jet. I tried other things, but went back to the wet jet.
Hi S.,
I have laminated hardwood floors, cheaper for me, but they told me to just use a little dawn and a little vinegar. You can use any mop, and swifler mopping pads for laminated floors. I don't know if you have real hardwood floors, so you might need to check with the manufacture to see what they recommended.

I work at home and you can to.

I too have often heard of the water/vinegar solution.
But I would think the manufactures' web site would have good information in regards to the care and cleaning, that is specific to your flooring.
S.,
We had hardscrapped floors put in last year and were told to use 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water and I use a libman mop on them. You just need to dampen the floors. We were also told to stay away from Armstrong type cleaners as this will actually make it harder for them later in the future when you need to have them refinished.

Polycare is what my floor guy recommended. I also like Method for wood floors. I would suggest a good dust mop for every day.
I love mine.
