LOL! Melissa!
How about hanging it behind the door, on the wall, just a bit lower so you can reach?
I bought an over the door shoe organizer. Now the door won't close and I can't reach the top pockets. How can I make this work.... easily??

Welcome to mamapedia!
What would I do? I would return it. I would find another way to store my shoes or get rid of shoes that I don't wear.
have you tried the under the bed shoe organizer? I have not - I have a shoe organizer that has a wrought iron frame and canvas "pockets". I LOVE it. I've never been able to find another one! I keep looking!
good luck!
Go to Hobby Lobby or some craft store and buy two (or three) over-the-door wreath hangers - shouldn't be seasonal because people hang things on their doors all the time - they will make your shoe organizer hang a lot lower. And wherever it sits on top of your door, just shave off a little at a time until it closes properly.
Good luck!!
Just tack it to the door at the right height.
Stilts and duct tape
I'd return it.
Have you seen the fabric ones that hang on the rod in your closet? Those are great. I have two and there are two in my son's closet--they're good for lots of stuff, not just shoes!
I had the same problem. I got the Command reusable hooks that were heavy-duty (weight-wise, and had metal hooks attached to plastic. You have to line them up right to go through the eye-holes, but I did this on both kids' doors a couple of years ago, and they are still working! :)
You can shave just a bit of wood off the top of the door. I've had my cousin do that for me. Another organizer, one with hooks, allowed my door to close when I repositioned the metal hooks so that they were definitely flat on top. That took a bit of bending of the hooks.
As to making it lower, depends on how the organizer is attached to the hooks. If there are eyelets you can thread ribbon thru them and fasten that to the hooks.
Or you can dispose of the over the door hooks completely and attach the organizer to the door or a wall with tacks. In the old days this is the way they were attached. No hooks back then.
