Hi ladies,
My little guy just came down with this. Can any of you let me know how long it lasted for your kids? My son is 11 months old and this is his first illness besides a few colds. He is miserable, but Motrin and Orajel seem to be helping him feel better. Any tips on helping them feel better/ heal faster are appreciated! I feel so bad for him...

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies for the responses! It's day 4 and he seems to be doing much better. Yes, still a bit crabby so we give him some Motrin, but other than that, he is doing really well. The Dr. says he's not contagious much now. :)

It's so different for each kid. My 2 year old had it and it hardly bothered him at all. He was pretty crabby, but other than that he seemed to handle it well. We gave him lots of jello, pudding, popsicles, and ice cream...Anything cold seemed to make him feel better. Our Dr. also said to mix benedryl and Maylox and dab it on the sore spots in his mouth to numb them. It lasted for about 4-5 days for us, but again he seemed to have a mild case.

Another child had it as well and he was miserable...and his mom got it too. High fever, crabby, wouldn't sleep or eat much. The mom said it was awful for both of them when she came down with it.

Each child reacts so differently. Sorry if I wasn't much help, hopefully some cold foods will help. I also remember the Dr. saying that baths help too. Good Luck!

Lots of rest and lots of fluids. Keep up with the Motrin and definitely do the 1/2 benadryl/malox. They can actually swallow this as they can sometimes have ulcerations even inside their tummy. Ask your doctor since your guy is 11 months. Drs can prescribe something even stronger with lidocaine but most don't. When you see the blisters on the toes and fingers start to peel you are near the end. The blisters on the toes can almost look clear and flat and hard to see. I am so sorry as this is a nasty virus. Stay out of those indoor play areas as much as possible. LOL

My 2 year old had it earlier in the summer, while we were on vacation-ugh!

I was not sure what it was at first. The symptoms began as a fever, which lasted about a day. Then the fever subsided but he was VERY cranky for about two days. Then we noticed the spots on his feet. The spots only lasted about two days. The hardest symptom to deal with was his crying and crankiness, especially because for most of the time I wasn't sure what was wrong. I just treated his fever with Tylenol, and of course we tried to comfort him as much as possible. I also remember a bath seemed to help a lot.

Unfortunately we passed it on to another relative who is 1 year old and her symptoms were much worse. Sorry I don't have any helpful tips, just sympathy. Hang in there! I think you just have to wait it out.

My 17 month old had this at the beginning of the summer. The first 2-3 days were the worst with respect to how he was feeling. We just gave him motrin, which really did the trick. He also didn't fell like eating much, but we gave him lots of water and yogurt which got him through until he was feeling up to eating. He didn't get too many blisters (mostly on one one hand), but after a couple of days they kind of scabbed over and looked nasty for about a week. He also developed a rash -- which didn't seem to bother him but looked horrible -- all over his legs. The rash took about a week to go away.
