When my kids were little the big hit was rice crispy treats and I'd pipe a blob of frosting and use licorice for spider legs. Really fast and easy ... and with 4 kids I needed something fast and easy.

Caramel apples can be tough when kids are losing their teeth.

2 suggestions - 1 classic, 1 new:

Rice krispy treats - while they don't have a lot of ADDED nutritional value - are not BAD for you. Rice cereal and marshmallows. Marshmallows have surprisingly little fat, sugar, low calories. And kids love them.
Plus you can add raspberries or blueberries.

____

My aunt just made a brownie pizza - on a pizza pan bake brownie mix, spread really thin. Watch it close while cooking so it doesn't burn. Cover with cream cheese frosting. Add strawberry, kiwi, pineapple, etc toppings.

good luck, I look forward to seeing what other suggestions you get!

You can make cookies out of 1 can of canned pumpkin mixed with 1 box of cake mix (can be spice cake or white)--that's it...other add ins or topping optional. google it and you'll see these cookies get rave reviews and pumpkin is very low in fat making these a healthier alternative.

mom with a little food coloring you can make just about anything LOL

I was thinking Eye balls

you could scoop out some mellon balls

and drop them into those mini cupcake papers

then top them with cool whip, iceing, or fluff
to make the white of the eye ( fluff works the best )
then place a dollop of chocolate in the middle to make the black part ( upside down chocolate chips work too)
or you could use blue berries

then get some red gel icing from the store.
and decorate some squiglies like the red of the eye

you can use green food coloring to change the fluff green and make goulie eyes,

ect... but your supposed to make 2 of each eyes so it looks like eye balls LOL

this is not the recipe but it gives you an idea.

Also using other fruits you can create other fun dramatic eye balls

banannas , green grapes, strawberries, rasberries, black berries ect...

also you can have the kids help out, by cutting and coloring paper to use under neath for a more dramatic effect.LOL

eye lashes, skulls,
ghosts.ect

Popcorn balls are always a hit. Good Housekeeping magazine always has a great halloween issue with lots of treat tips. As a mom of a 7 & 5 year old also, I can tell you that Carmel Apples might be a little tricky. My son won't eat them at all and my daughter will only eat 1/2. Another thing toconsider at their age is loose teeth. there might be kids that are unable to eat them at all. It would be a shame if you put all the work into making them and then most of them were thrown out. maybe apple slices with carmel dip would work better. Good Luck!
