Here's a treat idea: Get chocolate frosted donuts, apply icing in thin lines to make a spider web, and put plastic spiders on top, with maybe a piece of candy corn as a "bug".
Hello Ladies,
I am Homeroom Mom for my Son's 1st grade class. I am looking for some new ideas for the Halloween party. I have been planning these parties for years but I seem to be in a bit of a rut. Any suggestions would be great!!!

Hello,
this is my first year as homeroom mom but the teacher gave us a few idea's ( I cant wait to read what others give you...
one that we are doing is a mummy - the kids are going to rap each other in tp.
another is making spiders & ghost on the suckers.
the last is planting Pansy in the little orange clay pots.
anyway - that is some of the things we came up with
GREAT ideas Sundeepa!
I remember as a child we used to all go in the gymnasium for games and contests. There would be a sack race and maybe also a bean bag toss or something. All would be Halloween themed and all the kids would dress up.
I think it is these great childhood memories that have contributed to my love of Halloween now!
I don't know what you usually do, but you might consider some old-fashioned ideas like bobbing for apples, etc. We always had a small scale treasure hunt and created a haunted house (not too scary considering the age). We also had a hot dog eating contest or something similar. Have a great Halloween.
We made haunted houses using graham crackers, icing and candy decorations (like a gingerbread house) one year. Also, for coloring pages and worksheets try Twisty Noodle...http://twistynoodle.com/. You can customize the coloring pages with each child's name.
We are still in the planning stage for a Halloween party for preschool kids and here are some prelim ideas ... hope it helps.
we will set up 4 stations and have the kids rotate through--
1) Monster sensory lab--bowls of spaghetti (intestines), jello (brain), peeled grapes (eyeballs), hotdogs (fingers), dried apricots (ears)
2) Pumpkin guessing game--weight and diameter (prize given to closest guess)
3) Salt dough ghosts--kids shape the dough and then we microwave the dough to harden
4) Mr. Bones snack--graham cracker smeared with cream cheese and topped with different pretzel shapes in form of a skeleton
Kids will decorate treat bags and put a treat in each bag. For the treat, each kid could contribute 1 cup of snack food (marshmallows, goldfish, pretzels, dried fruit, cheerios, snack foods, teddy grahams, etc.) to a communal pot (Halloween stew), then each can scoop a cup of the mixture into a goody bag to bring home.
I am in the same boat. But my son is at a new school in a different state this year and I am going to use two games that we did at his last school. 1st graders as well. We took a big ball of white yarn and sat all of the kids in a big circle. They each took a turn tossing the yarn across to one of their classmates until they had one big spiderweb. Next, we took white foam paper, cut out bone parts of a skeleton, divided into groups of 2-3, the first group to put all the bones in place to make a skeleton one. They loved both of these games. Good luck and I hope you find something you like! :)
