Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun?

Hi, my daughter who is 12 wants to go to the Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun. I'm not sure she is ready to be that "scared" but I'm also not one to judge since I've never been there. I would be going with her and a few of her friends some of whom have been there before. Has anyone been? How scary is it?

Also, are there other types of Haunted Houses that aren't too scary for 12 year olds. I don't want her to go to the Beast or any of those downtown that seem pretty scary. I haven't been since I was in my late teens and am not sure how scary those are either but they seem pretty creepy to me. (Ah how things change when they are your own kids....I recall begging to go when I was 12 and our girl scout troop even did an outing to one!)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for everyone's responses. We did end up going to Worlds of Fun last night. My daughter chickened out and wouldn't go in any of the "scary" attractions. We had fun though and enjoyed the atmosphere. Its good to know that you can still go and enjoy all of the fog and costumed characters without having to go into the haunted attractions themselves.

Halloween Haunt at Worlds of Fun is pretty mild. I think she would be fine. As for other haunted houses, it's up to you, but I think they're pretty scary, if for no other reason than they're in very old buildings and they're so dark. You could so easily get hurt in there. I also think the people that work in them are pretty weird, so I wouldn't let my kids go unless they were with one of their parents (not me, because I don't like them).

I have been to the ones at WOF and they are not that scary. She would probably be fine. I definitely would not let her go to those other haunted houses downtown they are way too scary.

I've read that the Halloween Haunt is NOT for kids under 14 after 7pm, and that after that it's too scary and not age appropriate.

I went to The Beast when I was 13 for the first time with my dad and some friends. We were all scared, but we had a big group, so that made it fun. It was a good time and we did it together every year after that through high school.

On the other hand, my husband and I took his sister when she was 15 and she was absolutely TERRIFIED! She was shaking, sweating, and a nervous wreck. We ended up taking a chicken exit. I couldn't believe how absolutely terrified she was.

I think it's up to you, you know your daughter best. If you do go and she gets too scared, there's always the chicken exits.

Maybe an alternative would be staying in and renting a few "spooky" movies. There's always next year.

But, as long as you'd be going with her then you'd be able to share with her in the experience and talk about it later.

Mine are still too little for the Worlds of Fun after 7pm crowd. Keep in mind, you'll probably encounter some onry, older teens in the bunch too not to mention some spooky images that she might have trouble shaking off when it's time to go to bed that night.

Whatever you decide, HAVE FUN!
