I let my kids eat as much as they want! It's a holiday, and you're only a kid once! After Halloween night I dole it out to them in lunch packs and after dinner. Whatever they or we don't want goes to the office candy bowl.
What do you do with all of that extra Halloween candy your kids get? Is there a way to get it out of kids hands and into some worthy cause?

call me old-fashioned, but I think kids should be able to eat their candy!! What's the point in trick-or-treating otherwise?? Peace!!
& if you're looking to teach the importance of "thinking of others" etc.....take some candy & donate it BEFORE Halloween.....it means a whole lot more than receiving leftovers!
I bring mine to work and give it away. My work loves candy and I hate gaining weight because candy is in the house. It's a win win!!
We use the "Candy Fairy". You tell your child they can keep all thier candy or leave it for the Candy Fairy to pick up and she will leave a toy. We let our son pick out 5 pieces and leave the rest for the Fairy. He LOVED it last year. He was very excited about toy.
One year I took all the Halloween candy to the Christmas parade and my girl scouts who were in the parade threw it to the kids who watched.
I also have sent it to the guys who were deployed, to Afghanistan, Iraq and Japan. I have also sent it to ships. My son is in the Navy, hubby just retired ffrom the Marines.
Take it to church for the Sunday School teachers to use as bribes.
If I don't get it out of my house I will steal all the chocolate, yes they all know mommy is the chocolate thief, and eat it myself.
Google "donating leftover halloween candy" - it'll come up with a bunch of different ideas, and may inspire you to know what works for your area. That's a neat idea :)
For about a week we keep all the kids' candies separate and they get to choose one to three pieces a day...just while there is excitement and enthusiasm about Halloween. Then we dump it all in a drawer and it is given out periodically...and to guests, etc. Then after a specific time (or whenever we feel like it) we throw it all out. It is very handy to have a "candy drawer."
Ummm....my kids get to eat it!! That's why you trick-or-treat!
They certainly don't eat it all in one sitting...but they put it ALL (my boys have to combine it all) in a big bucket and then they can chose one candy a day, after lunch or dinner. It's also nice for my hubby and I to be able to snack on some if we want.
There's always a large supply of candy in the lunch room and in the candy dishes at work in the beginning of November.
You could see if a local soup kitchen would be interested.
Lots of our local childrens' dentist offices will take Halloween candy...
We just eat all ours, strange huh?
Extra candy? Never heard of such a thing. lol.
I use to let my kids eat as much candy as they wanted but they had to eat a solid breakfast, lunch, and dinner plus brush their teeth a lot. It worked out well because when the candy was gone it was gone without any fighting over who got how many pieces during the day.
Our dentist had a flyer in the lobby saying there is someone collecting the candy to send overseas to the soldiers. I don't remember the flyer's details but my dentist is Catherine Judd in Plano.
My daughter likes getting the candy more than eating it. She gets bored with the candy after a day or two so we put it up and use it for special occasional treats.
Some schools participate in sending candy the leftover candies to the troops. Please check with your local schools. We are in LISD, our school does this. Hope it helps.
one of our local kindy teachers collects it to put into thanksgiving baskets at a homeless shelter.
Make something different with it: http://tinyurl.com/6lpd4o or try here: http://www.squidoo.com/leftovercandy or here: http://bit.ly/1pnhIX and here is some with pictures in a slideshow: http://tinyurl.com/24p3arz (and at the end, click on the next slideshow)
It will not go to a worthy cause but we always use ours to make gingerbread houses. You could donate to your child's classroom or office at school, teachers always use candy as incentives. I assume the homeless shelters or food banks may accept them also.
Dr. Rozas in Coppell collects it and sends it to the troops and other worthy groups around the area.
I was going to list some ideas but they have all been covered in previous post. At my house we usually eat on it for a couple of weeks and then throw the rest away, it is not good for anyone anyway and there will be more junk down the road to replace it with the coming holidays!
Um, what do you mean, all that "extra" candy? We eat it all!! :-)
I am a little late on this but this is in Frisco so thought I would pass on the info. Go to www.smileschangelives.org/sweetsforsmiles
All of the candy collected will be sent to the troops.
Retirement homes welcome the extra candy!
And FYI - I give my kids a deadline to eat the candy. If it's not gone - too bad! :)
I have a Soldier Care ministry through my church. After Halloween, church members bring leftover candy to church & I send it to the troops. Churches in your area may do the same, or maybe you could contact the USO and see if they can use it for the troops. I'm sure there are LOTS of places that will take free candy! :-)
You can take it to school and put it in the teachers lounge..
Some dentists are participating in the Halloween Buy Back program. They send the candy to the military. See if there are any participating in your area:
My boys ages 9, 5, 4 pick out about 15-20 pieces and the rest we bring to our church. You can probably donate lots of places.
My wife takes ours to work and just leaves it in a bowl in the break room. I like the idea of sending it to the military.
You can donate it to nursing homes, food banks, etc as long as it's sealed up.

I personally don't give a lot of candy. i give the big candy bars and then I have a bunch of trinkets that kids seem to like that are non-candy (glow necklaces/bracelets, glow bouncing balls, pumpkin stress busters, etc) I usually get my stash from Oriental Trading and the good thing is the leftover trinkets can stick around for next year!
When we do get a lot of candy, not so much anymore with a 15 yr old, I kept it around because I have a lot of kids here on weekends and they eat it. I don't eat it because I am not a sweets/candy person.
Good luck!
LOVE the candy fair AND the Halloween Candy Buy-Back Programs! I'm totally for using the candy for a good cause! My kids get more candy than they could (reasonably) eat in a year! I always wonder what to do with the extras! I think it's a fun holiday & they should be allowed to eat SOME candy...but I also think it's a great idea not to let them indulge in eating ALL the candy & letting someone else benefit! Thanks for asking a great question!
