So What Happened?

We haven't thrown much out, just some opened pieces. I've eaten a ton (it feels like). I was just wondering about you ladies. Our kids are little, and eat some dessert every other night or so. I'm going to let them keep what they received but I have 5 lbs of candy that we never gave out. We don't work in offices so can't give it away there, I'll try donating it to shelters. I know my kid's school won't take candy. Halloween for me starts off the holiday eating fest that I participate every year. Luckily I am able to keep the pounds off by exercising but I feel like... here we go again!

None of it gets thrown away and I don't think people should throw it away, that is wasting it. The kids take a couple pieces to school for lunch and have a couple more when they get home. After another week or so, they will start to forget they even have it and in the mean time my hubby eats it. I'm not a big candy eater but my husband is. If you don't want it anymore, take it to work or to some homeless shelters or something. Please don't just throw it out. Good luck.

All peanut butter cups are in the freezer.
They're safe.
I don't like them frozen!

Funny thing, I was putting the Halloween candy I bought to pass out in the china closet (before Halloween) and guess what I found in there? GIANT bag of Easter candy. So much easier to throw away Easter candy in October, it seems...

Usually we dig out all the plain chocolate like Hershey bars and such and we melt them down and do a fondue.

The M&Ms get put away to save for doing a gingerbread house later on. We also save any other candy that would be good for gingerbread house decorating.

Snicker bars we freeze so they last a long time plus they are good frozen!

We throw out all the candy at the beginning of December. Otherwise she's allowed 3 pieces as dessert after lunch and dinner.

If I had known about the Candy Fairy we would have done that when she was younger. You let your child chose some of the candy to save and then they put the rest of the bag of candy out on the porch. At night the Candy Fairy takes the candy and leaves a surprise that is NOT filled with sugar! I hate having all that sugar available---for her and us!

We don't toss it. We may donate it to a homeless shelter or I may give some to the people asking for money at the grocery store or may give it to someone in need, but I don't toss it.

Good luck to you and yours.

He's not a candy eater. I've eaten about two pieces a day. Most will make it to work next week with my husband.

Those "fun size" are great for me. Two bites and I'm happy. All the working-out I've done has really helped and have lost 13 pounds in three weeks. NOT going to snack those pounds back on!

We tossed candy that was innapropriate (i.e. I don't let my 3 yr old have gobstoppers or gum). But other than that, I ration it out. If they eat a satisfactory dinner, they get to choose one candy for dessert. If they do something especially nice or helpful then I reward them with a candy. It lasts for months! We talk about the fact that candy tastes really yummy but that is not a healthy food so we only eat it for special occasions or now and then, not all the time. I fear that if I avoid candy, then when my kids are older or grown they will go crazy over it since it was so forbidden(I've seen this happen). It tastes so good that it is easy to do. I'm trying to teach my kids responsible candy eating (and responsible fast food eating too). Enjoy in moderation. These foods are unavoidable in our society ( especially as our kids age and do more activities on there own where these foods are served) and if they are "forbidden" then they become all that more attractive. Also if they don't know the difference between healthy food and unhealthy food, then they will naturally tend to eat more of what tastes better (candy, fast food). I also don't want my kid to be the kid who can't have the birthday treat a classmates mom brings to class for a friends birthday and stuff like that. No one likes to have to be different unless it is truly necessary (like a food allergy for instance). Any leftover candy we didn't give out is given to charity or used when we bake holiday cookies for the neighbors . At any rate that's my philosphy. Whatever you choose to do with it will be the right choice for your kids.

I have eaten one piece, and he has eaten none (he's 11 months!). We only had about 10 pieces to choose from and none of them were very good, otherwise I am sure more would be gone!

We always picked through the mess and kept the stuff we liked, the kids had no problems tossing out stuff they werent familiar with. It hit the trash can if it wasnt already re candied on Halloween night.

We've eaten very little actually. My son has to earn a treat with good behavior or finishing his meals, so he hasn't gotten a ton of it yet. I am going to dice up some of the cany bars and/or open the bags of m&ms and put them in some cookies I'm making tomorrow. I put a couple Almond Joy's in my husband's lunch this week. Tossed? - no way. Last year we only tossed I think 5 lolipops b/c I just had way too many and it was getting into December. This year my son only got 4 lolipops and the rest of the candy I didn't think we'd eat I gave to my neice halloween night (I tossed it into her pile of candy she was inspecting).

I didn't get any :( I had to go to work early the next morning and was looking forward to digging that night, and to my surprise the bowl was empty. When I asked what happened to the candy my DD said she took it into school for the teachers Prize candy bag.

I was SOOOO disappointed.

We didn't have any trick or treaters this year. My cousin and I finished off a bag of "fun size" candy bars intended for trick or treaters. lol

My cousin doesn't even like candy or so he says.

my kids aren't big candy eaters so they each saved about a dozen pieces that they like and the rest they either gave to friends or donated to a collection box at school (previous years the candy has gone to local homeless shelter, this year it's going to Blue Star Moms)

I generally don't eat my kids' candy, but I had a rare and overpowering sugar craving the other night and ate some Kit Kats out of their pumpkins. They got to load up on as much as they could stand Halloween night, and as long as their daily behavior is good, they can have some after dinner at night. However, my oldest has had a very poor week at school this week, so he hasn't had any since Monday. I told him if he had another bad report today, I was throwing the whole thing in the garbage -which I usually never do for any reason (I let them string it out until it's gone), but I will if he has been bad again today.
