Okay, this is a strange question, but how much hairloss is normal after having a baby? My baby is 4 months old, and I am losing all kinds of hair.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I remember losing hair with my son, but I didn't remember it being this much. My hair is also a lot longer this time around, so that might make it more noticeable, too. I'm relieved to hear that it is normal.

My daughter was like one when mine finally stopped! Just tons of it in the shower! I really thought I would end up bald it was so bad. But in the end, my hair is no thinner than it ever was & it's now back to normal. Good luck!

I lost a ton of hair after both of my pregnancies. Handfuls out of the shower!! It eventually slowed down then stopped. I estimate at least a third of my hair fell out. It was extreme. Thankfully, I have very thick hair and it wasn't too noticeable. The mess was the worst.

Mine has kept falling out and my last child was born 12 years ago.

I have a 5 month old and am going through that too. Not fun! This is baby #4 for me and it was the same with all of them. Huge chunks of hair with every shower/washing. It evened out and was fine eventually.

I remember losing hair until the girls were about a year old. It continued; but not at the high amounts that I lost the first year of their life. I would take a shower, wash my hair and have to pick all the hair off my hands and set on the tub til I was finished and could clean it up. Gross. But, it eventually got back to some normalcy and I rarely have to "pick the hair off my hands" after shampooing and conditioning.

This is very common but not something most women know about until they actually have children and experience it. With both of my children-my daughter is 4yrs old and my son is 8.5months old-I lost large amounts of hair. I actually have patches in the front of my hair that lost so much that you could see my scalp through them. The shedding will stop after about 3 or 4 months and then the regrowth will start in most cases. I am currently is the akward regrowth stage and have lots of little hairs that are shorter then the rest. It looks funny but it is temporarery as eventually it will look normal again. It did after my daughter. Hope this helps.

So did I. Don't worry. Just remember your body went thru a lot of changes during pregnancy and after wards also. I didn't loss all of my hair and new came in.

Totally normal...I remember having to clean out the shower drain twice during a 10 minute shower for months. It eventually stopped but I can't remember for how long it occurred.

Normal for me 3 times! I forget how long it lasts, but it was long enough to be really annoying (sorry).
