Hairdo Redo

I got my hair cut on Tuesday and when I left the stylist said that if it needs any tweaking just give her a call. Well, I am not one to complain, and it's not that it's a bad haircut, it just not quite what I wanted and now that I've been able to style it a couple of times on my own, I think it needs more detail/layering to give it more style.

So, have you ever called to get your haircut "fixed"? How did the stylist handle it? Did she/he charge you anything? (I would assume that I would tip her again...) What time frame do I have to ask to come back?

I feel very awkward about it but yet a good stylist wants her clients to be satisfied, right?

thanks ladies!

What can I do next?

Yes, I have definitely gone back for 'tweaking.' As a former hairstylist myself, it's not a big deal, so don't worry about it. Especially if she said so up front, take her up on it. She only wants you to be happy. Happy customers tell others. (So do unhappy customers.)

Absolutely give her a call. I'm sure she'll be happy to fix it and will probably fit you right in...it probably won't take her long either. I did this once after getting my hair colored, after a week I hated it and called, she was so nice and changed it for me with no charge...I didn't even ask her if she would charge (I would have paid), she just came right out and told there would be no charge. I thought that was really nice since I'm a regular customer of hers.

Your stylist wants you to be happy with your hair and I'm sure she will gladly redo your cut for free. I have had my color retouched before when needed free of charge.
The happier you are and the more people you tell about your hair results in more business for your stylist.

Take her up on it! She obviously knows that although she's cut and styled it, you will need to work with it yourself to 'know' how if the cut really worked.

Get the layers added in, and then go back the next time you're ready for a haircut. She's making the effort to ensure you are a satisfied customer, and if she wasn't open to re-cutting, she wouldn't have offered. Take her at her word.

Me, I'm lazy, and so I'd likely live with something I wasn't 100% in love with, (because I just put it up in pigtails or barrettes anyway)...however, I love the woman who cuts my hair and she always asks "so, how did the last one work for you" and we go from there.

Yes - I have for the same reason. I thought I didn't want many layers and ended up, I needed them. So I called her and asked to come back. She didn't charge me but I tipped her well. I also didn't expect a wash and blow dry so I went with my hair wet and left with it wet. I was glad I did it.

They WANT you to call, I promise!! I have several close friends that do hair and they want you to be happy. If it is within about 10 days I think that is acceptable. Call and let her know how you feel, she won't charge you again but do tip her 10 bucks for her time.

I did it once. She told me to come back if there's any touch-ups needed to be done. I called 5 or so days after, said I needed to come back in, who did my hair, etc... I was in the computer system, so they knew when I came in. She was extremely polite and nice about it, and I tipped her again, but not quite as much as I did for the original cut. Oh, and no, I was not charged and I've never heard of a hairdresser charging if it's within their set window of time.

Definately call, she may need to trim just a little more, or perhaps she can just help you with styling skills.

If she wouldn't have said something I would be hesitant to call. But since it was her suggestion you should absolutely not feel funnt about it.

One purpose that it would serve--besides just making you happy with your 'do--is to show her what you want right there in the moment. Otherwise, you have to wait until your hair/color/texture/whatever grows out/wears off and just hope that you are able to convey your message then.

I have gotten my hair cut and styled and then gone home and washed it all over again...and then gone right back (same day) to show her exactly how I like for my hair to feel and behave.

I have had to go back before. One stylist cut horrible layers that did not lay right. It was at a Salon and I called back the next day in tears because my hair looked horrible. They redid my layers and also offered me free product.
