Haircut Gone Bad Kinda JFF

Okay first of all I want to say that I realize that there are people out there with real problems and if this is my biggest problem I am very lucky. But, I had a haircut gone bad.

My old hairstylist moved, so I tried a new one. My hair was at my shoulders, which was regrowth from the last time I chopped it. I was looking forward to getting it long enough to braid again. I went to get a trim and asked for a bit of layering in the front b/c it was looking heavy. (my hair is very thick and I have a lot). She chopped like 4 inches off the front and left the back long. It seriously looked like a shaggy mullet. I go back the next day and complain and get another lady. I say, okay please turn this into a bob. She cuts the back more and it looked terrible, but I didn't want it worse so I didn't say anything. Tipped her and left. The next day I go to a whole different place and pay for another cut and get my bob shaped into a very cute A line.

I'm still sad though b/c in the end my trim ended up in me losing 4 inches of hair. I can't put it in a ponytail and I'm sad. Every time I look in the mirror I'm sad that I have to do that growth all over. I have donated my hair 4 times and losing 4 inches means losing about half a donation. I have a goal to donate 6 times b/c on average it takes 6 donations for a wig.

I know it'll grow and it's okay in the long run, but I'm still sad that I lost it. I mean for many women our hair is part of our identity. So.... give me a laugh ladies. Have you ever had a haircut go bad? What happened? Does anyone have a really good butcher story? :-)

Have a good day!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh Wow!!! You ladies have some interesting stories. From green hair, to a white ring, to a bald spot, to a total boy cut!!! I'm certainly feeling better about my hair, but I feel so bad you all had to endure those hair nightmares!!! It grows right!! Here's hoping. Thanks a lot for all your stories. They were great!

I did a number on my hair a couple weeks ago and its HORRIBLE. I trimmed my bangs and omg it looks like I put a small bowl on my head and just cut along the bowl rim. ugh. so now my bangs are WAY above my eyebrows, super short. Its one of those where strangers on the street totally have the right to ask me " what were you thinking??? " .
I'm still waiting for it to grow back. Never again. ;)

Well, not a bad cut, but a baaaaad color. The day before my brother's wedding (and of COURSE I was a bridesmaid!), I decided to darken my blonde a little bit during a late-afternoon appointment. What I ended up w/ was GREEN HAIR because my stylist didn't "fill" the hair first, just applied color right over my blonde. (I know this now, didn't at the time). Anyway, guess what color the bridesmaid dress was? TEAL! There was no time for color correction and the wedding was in the early morning so boy, did I suffer on that one. Ah, well, they divorced anyway :) Good luck w/ your hair!!

I just got my hair cut 2 weeks ago. I LOVE it! My husband hates it. I did a pixie cut, and have been getting tons of compliments on it, but when my hubby looks at me, now he just sees my mother. None of us knew how much I looked like my mom until I got this haircut. I hadn't had bangs in 22 years, so now with short hair and bangs, I am her clone. Not sexy, so I will be letting it grow out again. Don't need a daily turn-off for poor hubby :)

OMG. I completely empathize with your haircut gone bad woe! I have extremely curly hair that when you chop and inch it's the equivalent of cutting four and it takes that much more longer to grow.

When I was in first grade, I had come down with a really bad cough. My hair was completely matted, and my mother for lack of resources took me to a BARBER! Yes, a barber. He treated my hair like a man's and chopped it to the point of me having a bald spot.

I had very short hair most of my childhood and to this day and into my fourth decade, I trust very few people with scissors.

I hadn't cut my hair for 10 years, not even a trim, until recently when I entrusted a nice stylist to just trim an inch, and she did just that with my hair straight so she can gauge the length.

So yes, I empathize.

And kudos to you for donating your hair. Mine will never bee long enough :-(

I work with a woman and we tease her about her $1,000 haircut. That's an obvious exaggeration, but she had about a solid week of hair trauma.
She had heard that a stylist was really good and she was all excited about her hair appointment. The next morning, she was so upset she said she thought about just putting a bag over her head so no one could see it. It was uneven and chopped up. Her hair was fairly short to begin with so she didn't have a lot of room to work with. She just couldn't stand it so she made an appointment with someone else on her lunch hour. Yikes! It wasn't any better, just shorter.
She finally found someone who did an amazing job of fixing it and it looked really cute, but it was WAY shorter than she ever intended. She was just glad to feel like she looked presentable, but it was like a week long ordeal to get there. She's sticking with the last hairstylist she found. For life.

I'm blonde and always have admired auburn hair.
I found out the hard way that red and white make pink.
My husband freaked out.

Oh well, it's only hair. It does grow back.

Best wishes.

My regular stylist was out so I got another stylist who's heavily accented Russian should have been a clue. Somehow a 1/2" trim with layers turned into 6 inches chopped off with no layers. When she tried to add layers, it just went from bad to worse. When the smoke settled, I remember telling her it's too bad we can't glue it back on. She knew full well she'd made a hack job out of it but she kept trying to compliment it which only made it worse. Also unfortunately my hair is really slow growing so it took over a year to grow back.

I had a lady that was drinking while doing a perm on me (this was over 20 years ago) and not only did she burn my scalp up, the back was so tangled & matted that I had to have a chunk of my hair cut out. :( Good luck.

Well, until I found my best friend (my stylist too) I would not go into a salon unless I was ready to lose it all - no matter what a trim would turn into loss of half or more simply because the stylist would cut what he/she wanted and not what I wanted. I would, however walk out with a free haircut. I specifically told them that should I lose more than 2 inches due to your inability to trim my hair that I was not going to pay nor tip, they still cut away! Once, I went into a high end salon to get a trim and light brown highlights put into my dark brown butt lenght hair and walked out with bra strap length hair with orange streaks! I was PISSED to say the least.

I had really long hair, almost all the way down my back for my wedding (I had been growing it out for six years), and so I really wanted a change, and I went very short. It basically a pixie cut, trimmers used on the back, but then the top is fluffy enough to make it feminine. It's normally very cute, very easy to deal with, a combination of the typical short Mom haircut and the way Winona Ryder used to wear hers, back when it was edgy but still cute instead of crazy. ^_^

Anyway, I wasn't used to the haircut yet, but I loved it. I had a cold the day I went into the salon, so I wasn't wearing my contacts but instead my glasses. The stylist asked me what I wanted done. I told her, "I'm not really sure, just a trim up, I love the style, but I let it get way too long this time." Then I had to take my glasses off so she could cut it (I am legally blind without my glasses or contacts, so I couldn't see anything of my reflection in the mirror). It felt like it was taking a long time, but like I said, I wasn't really sure what I wanted from her or how long it should take yet. When she told me she was done, I put my glasses on, and nearly cried. SHE CUT MY HAIR UNTIL IT WAS ONLY AN INCH LONG, ALL THE WAY AROUND. It was a boy's haircut. She might as well have given me a buzz cut. I was in such a stunned state that I don't remember saying anything, I don't remember paying or tipping, I just drove home, lay down in bed and cried.

Particularly terrible was that I had gone in to get my hair cut because my husband had a very fancy dinner party coming up, and I wanted to look my best. It took a lot of courage for me to suck it up and walk in there. I felt completely naked the whole time.

That was about 5 or 6 years ago now. I didn't allow any pictures to be taken until my hair had grown out, so I have no idea if it was actually as bad as I thought it was in my head, but I have never again worn my glasses to a hair appointment. ^_^

We moved to Houston about 6 months ago and we are still 'feeling' our way around town for services and such.
So yesterday I tried a new place to get a haircut..... OOOFFFF...
I picked my 6 yr old daughter up from school and she looks at me and says..."what happened to your hair?" I played it off, like "..what?!?!" she says "your hair looks funny"
I said "it's not nice to make fun of people" she followed with "well, your hair still looks funny"
The difference in a good hair cut and a bad one is.... about 7 days.

I also have a color disaster story for you to make you smile. :)

I used to color my hair myself all the time, and I decided I should strip the color since I had been coloring it so often (what was I thinking??). I bought a color stripper, and applied it. I piled my long, extremely thick, dark reddish-brown hair on top of my head and waited the allotted time.

When I rinsed it out and dried it, it ended up a light pink everywhere except for where I had piled it up on my head. It was completely white in a circle on the crown of my head. I was afraid to do anything else to it, so I called my hairstylist at the time. He couldn't get me in for 2 days.

When I finally got in to see him, he said I was so lucky that my hair didn't completely fall out where my hair had turned white. It took him 5 hours to get my hair back to an acceptable color. I've gone to professional stylists ever since. :)
