I don't have any suggestions but wanted to say that our 4 yo bites his nails. It seems to happen alot around this age as I know of other moms that have 4 yos that do the same thing.
My 4 year old son has a nervous habit, I guess. He twirls his hair on the top of his head to the point where he has a bald spot!! Any suggestions??

I have a daughter who is always got her hands in her hair twirling, even pulling loose hairs out, chewing, etc. I decided to google and I came up with a lot of interesting facts that clearly made sense, it is a tic order, equivelant to thumb sucking, basically comforting almost like adult smoking except non harmful to health, I prefer her hands in her hair then ciggerretes although she's only 12yrs old, she's done this since she was 4 1/2 yrs old, I have tryed getting her interested in all kinds of stuff that involved her hands that she could do her self, like beads, I even resorted to the old fashion yarn string game I did when I was a kid, jacobs ladder, the witches broom, etc. they were fun kept me entertained for hrs.
I hope all works out so he has no more bold spots.
My husband still twirls on a bad day. We just ask him if he had a bad day and he stops. He did it as a baby as well.
Most likly he will out grow it. For now, don't make a big deal when you see him doing it, just try to redirect him. When does he do it? If it's at bedtime, you might try finding him a stuffed animal with "hair" that he can twirl or if it's while watching TV give him something else to do with his hands.
Good luck.
I did that when I had pony tails as a girl. When I cut my hair short, the habit died away for the most part. I wonder, would a shorter hair cut work for a boy? 'Course, his hair may already be really short. Just a thought.
