Hi Moms, i need a good affordable hair treatment. My hair is so nappy and frizzy I hate it. I wash it every other day, i'll use the hair-dryer or flat-iron maybe once a week. But when i was younger it was an everyday thing. It doesn't shine anymore, it doesn't look healthy , and i need to treat it better. What products work for you? (fun, easy and affordable) thx

What can I do next?

Wet your hair, towel dry it. Then apply either olive oil or coconut oil. Really saturate your hair with it. Cover with a shower cap and towel and leave in place for 45 minutes to an hour. Then shampoo it out.

Does amaaazing things for your hair. :)

Also, try rinsing your hair with white vinegar after you shampoo it. It will make it SHINE.

I use coconut oil, but I don't leave it in for 45 minutes, but only because I don't make the time to. I just put it in right before taking a shower. I use castile soap to wash my hair instead of shampoo. And instead of white vinegar, I use diluted apple-cider vinegar as conditioner and then rinse it out. I have really thick curly hair that naps really easily and this regimen does the trick for me. I am thinking about switching to a baking soda paste for shampoo though.

I have done the Brazilian Blowout twice now and love the results, but it's not really affordable. I did just get a flyer from Sally Beauty Supply (don't know if you have those in San Diego) that advertised an Ion brand keratin treatment that looks like an at home version of the BB. It was about $25-30. Might be worth looking into. And maybe you can save up for the Brazilian Blowout? I've gotten Groupons for mine both times. Good luck!

Hi Krys,
Get the Brazillian style hair products..that are sulfate free...They are awesome! I am sorry you don't live in my area because I could hook you up at 2 places I know of that are affordable to have the brazillian blowout. You know its the Keratin treatment to remove the frizz from your hair. Its worth every penny. If you can't afford it go with the hair products I mentioned. Google Keratin shampoo or brazillian shampoo. I use Acai but that is $30 a bottle. However, since I had the salon do the brazillian I bought the shampoo and conditioner to make it last. So far so good. :)

Hi Krys,

I actually wrote a few articles on keeping your hair healthy on my blog - this isn't a plug for my blog, it's just that I don't want to re-write each tip when I can just copy and paste each link to each article;) I bleach the you know what out of my hair and it's in pretty darn good condition.

oh, p.s.: the Brazilian blow-out has been linked to so many health issues and is being considered by the FDA to be banned, so if you can avoid it, I suggest avoiding it all costs. My hairstylist refuses to have any party in it and when they do it in the salon he's said that his fingers go numb and he gets a bit dizzy - bad bad stuff that formaldehyde, etc. Go natural if at all possible.
