Hair Stylist/Dressers Advice Needed.

I have always had thin hair. After my daughter was born and I stopped breatfeeding my hair fell out by the handfull for about four months. Needless to say it got really thin, it has since recovered somewhat but is still very frail. My husband says it feels like straw. Which is no surprise to me... I do not use any products on my hair except shampoo. I also do not style me hair and only use a pick (my doc said not to use anything on it or to blowdry it). I usually end up throwing it in a ponytail most days because I work out in the mornings and I am a SAHM, so I am at home most of the time. Anyhow, my hair is to about my shoulder blades and is medium brown. I want to get my hair cut short, probably above my shoulders. I have had short hair plenty in the past so I am not afraid to cut it. My question is what cut/style is good for very thin hair? And where can I locate photos for my hairdresser (she is foreign and I would like to have a photo for her). Also, I have often had layers cut into my hair because "it makes it look thicker," it does not, at least for me. In fact it just makes it look even more stringy and the ends look frizzy. So I would like to avoid the layers in the back. I just don't have enough hair to cut layers into.... I only have one layer of hair to start with. Any advice or resources online with photos? I would consider bangs however, they tend to make me look 12. I have a small oval face, small features.
Thanks

What can I do next?

I understand your problem as mine it thin, too. What has worked for me is cut in layers, low lites, and valcro rollers. I towel dry my hair, brush it out and dry about 90%. Then, I use valcro rollers and dry a little more. When I take the rollers out I have volume. I just kind of finger my hair in place along with a skinny long pick. My hair dresser is amazed how well I can do my hair. I don't like when anyone else styles it. Good luck, I know it's not fun!

If you must put your hair up in a ponytail, you should only use a scrunchy; never any type of rubber band or "regular" ponytail holder. These can pull your hair out.
My mother uses the Nioxin stuff and she loves it. She gets it through her hairdresser friend at a discounted price. I know my hairdresser is nice enough to offer to buy products for her clients at the beauty supply place with her discount. That works very well for them! :) Maybe your hairdresser would get you some next time she goes to the beauty supply place?
Also, are you sure you're getting enough vitamins? It sounds like you might be deficient on a few of them. You might ask your doctor about what you can take.
Good luck.

Here is a link that I have used many times in the past for pics: http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=short+haircuts+f...

I have a version of the Meg Ryan cut on the first page :)

I, too, have very thin hair. I have Lupus that can cause hair loss as well. I haven't found any magic answers yet, but the two things that have helped a little are taking vitamin E and switching over to Nioxin hair products. I use the shampoo, conditioner, scalp treatment and follicile booster. It's not cheap, but it lasts a long time and I order it off the internet at SN2000 (I think) and they give discounts and free shipping. One more thing I want to mention is that before I got my hair cut short last year, I was putting it up in ponytails all the time, too. My hairdresser said that for how fragile my hair is, that wasn't a good idea. She says that it puts a lot of stress on the roots and scalp, increases breakage, and traps oil on the scalp.

Good luck!

I know you've probably had several answers to your question already; but look on the internet (google) for short hair cuts (for thin hair) and it will give you many ideas and pictures....I went on there just recently and copied off a couple of perfect pictures to take to my hairdresser. Your only problem will be deciding which cut and style you want from all the ideas you will have: just pick a few of your favs and your hairdresser will also be able to give you feedback on which ones she thinks will be best for you (your facial features, etc..).

Perhaps a bob-cut would be good, no layers. It would then be able to curve around your face and give some "style" without effort. You could go with a straight bob, or one that angled, with short in back, long in front or vice-versa.

Not sure how to help your hair, but seems you might want to condition to help with the straw texture. It would also strengthen your hair against breakage.

Maybe like this but without the bangs. Good luck:)
