ok so I have a hair appointment next week. The last time I was there, she told me to buy a shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate free. I always get it colored, but what is the difference between sulfate free products and color safe products???
Thanks Mama's!

What can I do next?

Sulfates are hard on colored hair; they also *may* cause cancer. Color-safe shampoos/conditioners may/may not contain sulfates, you have to read the label. Sulfates = sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). SLS is also known as sodium laurilsulfate or sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS or NaDS0).

I use Burt's Bees Color Keep Shampoo; it's sulfate free.

My hair is color treated and I have a Brazilian Blowout. I use sulfate free shampoo & conditioner, and it really helps my hair hold onto the color. I do think it makes a difference, compared to before I went sulfate free. Read the labels though - natural, organic, color safe, etc. doesn't necessarily = sulfate free.

I did a hair smoothing treatment and was told the same thing regarding sulfate-free products. The stylist said that they strip the hair of keratin. I've always used organic products like Nature's Gate, Giovanni and Avalon (sp?). You can get them at a health food store like Whole Foods, and my local Target carries them as well.

I also use Burt's Bees shampoo and conditioner.
You can find them at Target, Walgreens, and Wal-Mart.
