Ladies, I am losing lots of my hair since giving birth 4 1/2 months ago. It is starting to get worse. How long does this last? Is their vitamins or herbs to take so that this will stop? It is starting to fall out in big clumps every time I brush it.
Thanks ladies! I did have 2 epidurals. I am glad to know this is normal. I will start taking my prenatal vitamins again. I appreciate your input.
Yes this happened to me too.. It just now stopped at 6 or 7 months, now it is growing back, just as the other mom says, looks weird all this new hair!
I had the same problem, I took an over the counter multi-vitamin and after 2 or 3 days taking it the hair loss stopped. It doesn't matter what kind. I think I got a generic Walgreens one first but any one a day kind of vitamin should help.
Here's another it happened to me too! And it sucks. I cut my hair really short. The hair loss lasted quite a while, and yes, I too thought i'd go bald. It was looking bad there for a while, esp. b/c I already have fine, thinner hair. And it is equally crazy when it begins to grow back-- you have tiny "stems" sticking out from everywhere on your head! The things we women go through! Anyway, it will get worse, then it will get better. It just takes some time.
I don't have any advice for you, but I do have something to make you smile. My step-sister lost her hair after giving birth, only it was from her UNDERARMS and LEGS rather than her head!! The luck of some people!

My hair has been doing the same thing since having my son. It's everywhere! I swear I can pick up all the strands from my shirt and surrunding area and as soon as I think I've gotten them all, 100 more strands appear! I'm going to try the suggestion of taking prenatal vitamins again. I stopped when my son was born. Hopefully it help!
How is your son doing today after getting those tubes in his ears?

Funny story - my across the street neighbors had dogs, not kids. I was talking with her outside one day when another dog-owner came up and started talking about her dog who had just had puppies. "She's losing so much hair since she gave birth!" she said. "Oh, that's normal," said I. "I always lose hair after I have a baby too!"
I had this problem, too! Don't worry, it eventually gets better. However, I would suggest that you continue taking your pre-natal vitamins(or even a Flintstone!) every day. Continuing with my vitamins really helped me. If you are unsure, maybe your doctor or pediatrician could offer another suggestion. Good luck.

I had the same problem with mine. It started getting better for me at 6 months. A nurse practioner told me to start taking my prenatal vitamins again and that would help. She said that some people it takes like a year of for it to get better. My son is now a year and it's much better!
Did you have an epidural? Drugs leave your system thru your hair (that's how they can test for drugs in your system off a strand of hair). Anyway, if you had an epidural, which is a super strong drug, its just leaving your system. It will last a few months and then will deminish. You wont go bald, but you may have 'bad hair' days until the drugs are out of your system. Your hair may seem a bit more oily as well until it works itself out. I've had 3 kids and 4 epidurals (had to have 2 epi's with my last one!)and went thru the same thing each time.
This happened to me after both of my children were born. My OB told me it was very common and that during pregnancy you don't shed hair like you normally do when you're not pregnant. Then once you're not pregnant any longer and your hormones start changing you start to lose all of that hair you held onto for so long. I think I shed really bad for a few weeks, but then it stopped. Don't worry - I'm sure you'll be fine! It will stop soon!
I do not have a hair loss problem BUT I do lose a lot of hair when I brush, etc.
My stylist said to take Biotin. I did start that and I can tell a difference with my hair and nails IF I am consistant with the supplement.

This is completely normal. I was afraid that I would go bald!!! My hair also stopped up the drain more than once. It will take a few weeks or months but it will stop. No worries!
very normal. I can't remember when it stopped, but no worries, it does. my hair is the same now as it was before I got pg. No worries.
