Hair Help for 19 Month Old

Hello,

My daughter is 19 months old. She doesn't have a ton of hair but it is starting to get a bit uneven and long in places. She has never had her hair cut. I would like to try not to give her bangs but she won't let me put a barrette in her hair to pull the long hairs out of her face. Do any of you moms have any tips on hair accessory products that have helped in a situation like this? Any recommendations on any type of hair accessory that worked for you would be appreciated. Thanks!

The best barrettes we found for our 1st daughter were the old-style plastic ones from Goody - the kind we had when we were little! They are easy to put in, and hold tight enough that they are hard to pull out. With that said, we recently gave our second daughter, also 19 months old, a major haircut with bangs because we were sick of fighting with it!! ;) Good luck!

Hello J., My oldest daughter had the same problem. An elderly lady at church told me to put clear Karo syrup in the hair with the barrette. It works like a glue, yet washes right out. It is non toxic and worked like a charm. My daughter stopped pulling out her hair assesories which made mama very happy. Hope it works for you also. Good luck.

Check out http://www.shoplittlelady.com/. They have "Bitsy Clips" that hold any amount of hair and my wonderful and energetic 16 month old can't get them out. I love them!

Hi J.,
As a mother of 5 girls I have had this problem too. I will put a pony tail on top of my daughters head. I don't get all of her hair since it's not all long enoght... but just the long part. I started it 9 years ago with my oldest and I do it now with my twin 2 year olds. That way it keeps their hair out of their eyes and they don't really think much about it. I just use little black rubber bands, since they have dark hair, but you can find them or colored ones anywhere. With my twins I also do one with one on top and the other one with two pig tales just on the top... You can do to much, but as long as it's cute:o) I also found the younger you start the better they are to hold still so you can get it done fast.
Good Luck.

Soft head bands, small hair tie's, braid while she is asleep, light gel, with hair accessories, try and buy two, one for her one for her favorite doll. Make it part of getting dressed everyday, ie, now we do your hair, pick mommy out a pretty hair tie, do the doll's hair first and have her help. Best of luck, B.

I have a 12 month old with a lot of hair and it hangs in her eyes. I use the goody tiny clear rubber bands that come in a clear plastic ziplock bag I get mine at Target in the hair accessory aisle. They are very small and don't get caught in her hair. I just pull them out and they don't hurt her. Of course it isn't her favorite while I'm putting them in but it is over quickly. I put them right on top of her head. She looks cute.
