Hi. So, I have kind of thin hair, but a lot of it, and the length is about to the top of my bra line on my back with layers. Before having kids my hair was stick straight and all I had to do was blow dry it and go. I took me 5 minutes and I was done. But, now lovely after baby hormones have made my hair a little wavy and frizzy. I do still blow dry it and even after that I now have to flat iron it. I use bumble and bumble anti frizz stuff and it used to work great, but lately I've been noticing that my hair isn't as soft and it's breaking easily. I don't blow dry and flat iron every single day so that it doesn't get heat damage, but is there a product out there that if I wanted to just let my hair air dry and get the waves and have it not be frizzy at all? I just had it trimmed last month, so I'm not due for that just yet. Am I using the wrong kind of shampoo? I use garnier fructis (maybe I spelled it wrong?) for colored hair. I do get my colored about 3-4 times a year. So, should I be using a different shampoo or styling product, or both? I wouldn't mind the "beach look" as long as I can get the frizz out. THanks!!

What can I do next?

Try using Biosilk. I have frizzy wavy hair and this takes the frizz out for me. I've used it for years and I love it.

I'm on a medication that has made my hair dry and a little frizzy. My stylist recommended Aveda Dry Remedy shampoo and conditioner, and it has been fantastic for me. I haven't had good results with Garnier products, personally.

I have a lot of fine hair as well (not colored). I've never been able to keep a styling routine (too lazy) so my goal is always to find a low maintenance cut and products that simplify my life. First, I don't wash my hair every day - even though I work out on a daily basis. It really helps to keep it from getting too dry. When I do wash, I air dry. A long layered cut helps to encourage naturalish looking waves. (And when I want, I can blow drow or even flat iron for a more polished look). My most favorite product for effortless beach hair is Bumble & Bumble's Surf Spray. I put it on both towel dried and unwashed, dry hair. It gives it perfect texture and wave. I've heard it can be drying, so I still put on a serum for shine and less frizz when it's wet. I've also noticed that when I wash my hair at night after an especially sweaty workout/run, towel dry and sleep with it down, it takes a nice shape in the morning. For shampoo/conditioner I use either volumizing or something with extra moisture but I don't really believe it makes much of a difference.

I'm in the same boat - fine hair, tonnes of it, and it still looked pretty good until post-pregnancy. I started using more and more stuff, tryhing all sorts of different ones, and it just kept getting worse.

I've come up with a solution that works for me, but it was pretty drastic. I stopped washing it. At all, ever. The first few days are tough, but it gets much better after that, and by 6 weeks, it was gorgeous. The frist week I was on a beach vacation, so I was swimming in the ocean twice a day, which made it easier. For the next few weeks, if it was really bugging me, I used a conditioner, which I figure slowed down the process a bit but made it bearable.

I know it sounds gross, but my hair feels and looks better than ever, and it doesn't smell or look greasy. I just rinse it with warm water in the shower. It's wavy, silky, and the frizz has completely gone.

Hi, There are a lot of great suggestions here, but I wanted to add a quick treatment that works wonders for my hair. I mix equal parts aloe vera and grapeseed oil, work it through my hair from end to end and let it set for about 20-30 mins then shampoo and condition it out. Another thing you may want to try is shampooing less; I mean condition daily but shampoo say 2-3 times a week. Sometimes shampoo can strip our hair of the natural oils and dry it out. Stay away from 2-in-1 shampoo&conditioners. I have some recipes for hair care if you want them let me know and I can send them to you.
Good luck,
A.

So many of us with thin hair. Guess we all were in the wrong line that day! I have had such good luck by changing my products. Store brand products are cheaper because they don't have really good ingredients. Many have alcohol (very drying) and fragrances that just play chemical warfare with our hair and skin. I use botanically and organically based products that nourish the hair. I LOVE a hair mask product from Arbonne that is so amazing and leaves your hair soft and silky. I use an organic product for my hair that I put on so my hair doesn't frizz. Many of these type of products again have alcohol in them which may combat the frizz but only dry your hair out. Let me know how I can help you out. It really is hard when we are truly having a "bad hair day". :)

I have the same type of hair as you.
Here's what works for me....
First of all, my hair gets really brittley from the drug store shampoos and conditioners. I dont know why but my hair always breaks when I use these brands...and I've tried a lot of them. I have to get my shampoo and conditioner from the beauty supply stores. Also, I get anything that says super moisterizing. The sales people usually are a good help if you tell them what you're looking for. It is more expensive but I'll get the huge bottles that last months. Also, a lot of times the stores will have a really good special for the huge bottles. Ounce for ounce, it turns out being the same prices as a drug store brand.

Next, for laides like us with fine hair, the flat iron will break it. Use a flat iron protective spray (which you can get at the beauty supply store) to help. Try to only flat iron or blow dry no more than once a week.

Also, I use a creamy leave in conditioner as a styling product after I get out of the shower and thats it. My hair is curly/wavy naturally so this gets rid of the frizz while nourishing my hair.

Lastly, this is a super cheap and super effective deep conditioner....olive oil! I'll put olive oil in my hair and face once a week. Sometimes I'll even sleep in it. Then, I'll shampoo and condition it out and my hair is like silk! Its great. Just make sure you shampoo it all out so your hair isnt greasy.

If you want "wash and wear" hair, get the Brazilian Blowout. I got it a few weeks ago and love it. Before the Blowout, if I let my hair air-dry, I looked like a cave-woman. My hair was dry and crunchy. Now, I can air-dry it but to be honest, I usually blow dry it using my fingers only and it is so smooth and shiny. My hair is about the same length as yours and I dye it every 6 weeks because of the grey. Google Brazilian Blowout and you'll learn that it is supposedly very healthy for your hair unlike the Japanese chemical straightener. I was told it should last about 12 weeks. It's expensive - about $300 at a salon but I found a stylist that did it on her off days out of her home for $150. Good luck.

I use Pantene Smooth & Shine serum. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=189893&amp... Works just like Biosilk, but it's much cheaper and you can find it just about anywhere.

Your "frizz" might also be broken strands. You mentioned a lot of breakage, which is common when your hormones have been going haywire (and as we age). So, you aren't necessarily using the wrong shampoo and conditioner, but you may need to switch to something that will help more with your breakage. When I tortured my hair frequently (pre-baby) I had a lot of breakage and found that Tresemme Anti-Breakage shampoo and conditioner was fantastic and really affordable. http://www.tresemme.com/anti-breakage/products/vitamin-b1... It's also pretty easy to find in stores. I still keep a bottle of each for those times when it has been too long between hair cuts and my hair gets super tangled on the ends.

Its your shampoo. I have found in the past when I use for colored hair shampoo it really dried out my hair. I didn't know what it was until my hair stylist asked me if I was using for colored hair shampoo. Now I use either Paul Mitchell or pantene. I like to switch back and forth when I run out it keeps my hair feeling fresh. Oh and I wash it every other day.

Best of Luck

Are you using any oil before the flat iron? You can use palmade or any other type oil. Go in to a beauty supply and ask what products work with the flat iron.

frizz is the result of 2 things, together or seperate: lack of moisture and damamge. Every time you use hot tools you damage your hair at least to some degree. Every time you use hot tools you need to use a heat protectant. Do you use shampoo EVERYDAY??? you may be over doing it. If I blow dry my hair I let it go up to 3 days w/o washing. If I don't blow dry I still skip shampoo for about 3 or so days but I still condition (ends only). I have noticed a change in my hair. Always use a moisturizing or color treated formula. Color formula for at least 8 weeks after color. Have a good (hair) day!

Ok, I would say the description you are giving about your hair is pretty much how I would descibe mine. I pretty much blow dry and flat iron or curl everyday. Yes...I said everyday. I can not leave my house without doing my hair. So yes I have damaged my hair over time. I have found this product my Redken called satiwear blowdry lotion. I got it at my local Kut and Beauty. I also use the Redken So Smooth Conditioner, and my hair has never felt better. The blow dry lotion really helps against the frizz and dryness the heat does to your hair. Hope this helps!
Good luck with your hair!

I agree with those suggesting the Brazilian Blowout...it's amazing. I've had it done on my hair and my 12 year old daughter's. Her hair was always unruly and frizzy. Now she can wear it straight, instead of always putting it in a ponytail (it's almost down to her waist) without having to do much. It's healthy for your hair and makes it really shiny, and no more frizz. It lasts about 3 months.
