Hair Dye, Beach, and Grays Question...

Thanks to my DARLING children (and my husband, let's be honest)... okay AND genetics... I have gray hairs. I usually just dye my hair out of a box. I just noticed that I need to dye again... BUT... we're leaving for the beach Sunday, and I know the sun, salt water, pool is going to wreak havoc on my hair... do I dye BEFORE I go to the beach, or wait until my hair recovers after I get home?

I was going to get a hair cut sometime after I got back anyway, should I wait until after that?

I'm pretty sure no one is going to notice the grays at the beach... my hair is light red, and the sun bleaches it to a strawberry blonde; the grays will blend in and look blonde, right? ;)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

@Jo, I DO have some cool floppy hats!... my husband calls them my 'Driving Miss Daisy' hats... why? Who knows ;)

I'm a hairstylist. Many clients want to be looking good at the beach, so they usualy color their hair first (especially since people tend to take lots of photos!)

So, to protect color from the sun/ocean water, you can go ahead and color your hair now. Then, before you get in the beach water, spray your hair with clean water, mix in a little bit of conditioner in the water bottle or even use a store bought conditioning spray. Your hair will be full of the healthy water mix, so it will not absorb as much beach/pool water.

The floppy hat will help protect your hair from sun damage as well.

Also, I do recommend trimming after a color.

Dye your hair AFTER you get back BEFORE you get it trimmed. Always dye it before the trim - then the ends that get a little more fried get trimmed off. If you do it after - you are going to have a bigger chance of getting frizzy ends!

I think you will be fine on the beach but you could always dye and get one of those cool floppy hats for the beach. :)
