Hair Bow Madness

I am hoping someone has a truly innovative idea they can share with me. My little girl is a wonderful blend of strong and feminine. She can hold her own with the boys, but wants to look pretty while doing so.

She has long hair and we love to do different things with it - ponytails, pig tails, braids, etc. - and match the hair accessories to her outfit.

As those with such girls can attest, the hair bows seem to replicate like bunnies!

For plain elastic ponytail holders (no bows, ribbons, etc.) I have them organized by color in a plastic craft case for easy access. I have a special basket for headbands. I have ribbons on her closet door holding hairclips. But I have no idea how to organize all of the hairbows with corker ribbons, and such. They need to be easy to get to and easy to put away or we won't use the system.

I thought of maybe one of those hanging jewelry organizer with the little pockets, but found the pockets are too small and crush the bows. So now the only thing I can think of is a hanging shoe organizer – the kind with the plastic pockets that you slip one shoe in each pocket? The pockets would have to be clear. But I keep thinking that dust will accumulate in the pockets.

I need some brilliant ideas!

Thanks!

For those who asked, I am specifically talking about ponytail elastics with corkscrew ribbons or bows - anything on a clip is on a ribbon tacked to the inside of her closet door (kind of like a memory board without the board!). I am trying to find a way to organize them because I am sick of not being able to find the one we want easily.

What can I do next?

I gave up. We just keep ours in a pretty bin from Target under the sink. It's all in one bin all mixed together. It's been so much easier to just throw it in there and not worry about it. She doesn't seem to have a hard time finding things. Her necklaces sometimes get tangled together, but it hasn't been to big of a deal to untangle. Plus its much easier when I tell her to go put something away, she just has to open the door and throw it in there.

Whem my older girls were little, we put the hairbows on a ribbon in the closest. For the corker ribbons, I think you mean corkscrew ribbon hanging off the bow, I just gave a little more room for it. Of coursre, in my house the ribbons went to the same place as the missing socks.

If the ribbons have hair bands on the back, like pony bands, you could glue clothes pins to a ribbon and then clip the bow to the ribbon that way.

I have tried a hanger with several 1" wide ribbons hanging from it and then clipped the bows onto the ribbons. I also have seen those memory boards that have ribbons in a criss-cross pattern going diagonally for barrette boards. You can get them at Target or make them fairly easily. In the end, I finally just chucked them all into a big tupperware container because I got tired of organizing them. It is just easier to scoop them into a bin!

I stole a couple of my grandfather's skinny ties (they're sort of back in fashion, ratpack style) and tied it to my closet hanger rail. One tie could fit about 40 small bows, or 20 larger ones. The ties were thick enough to clip the bows to, but thin enough not to bend them out of shape.

For the elastic banf ones... papertowel roll bar at the time. These days, I shop at home depot, and would just go get some bendy wire and "wave" (so it's rippled to keep the bands separate/ not crushed... or leave it straight if I wasn't feeling all spiffy... either way, bend the wire in a sideways U pattern. Kind of like a climber's D ring. Spin the bows around until it's at the one I would want, and slip it off out of the space between the ends.

How about a pretty silverware tray played in a drawer or on top of a dresser? They make them in all different types of materials from mesh metal to clear acrylic.

Or- Similar to the hanging shoe organizer, they make hanging jewelry organizers that may also do the trick with smaller pockets.....

Good luck!

I use the flower clips in my hair all the time and I have ribbons to hold those, I use an old "Quaker Oats" container to house my headbands (on the outside) and the inside has other hair things. I am not sure how the hair bow with corker ribbons attach to her hair. Are they on elastics too or with a clip? Explain how they fasten and I may have a good answer for you.
I would think if they clip into the hair then on the ribbon they would go but if they are on a pony elastic then IN the Oats contanier they would go. I use card stock or construction paper to go around the box and tape it so it's pretty!

You can purchase a plastic container much like the one you were talking about however this one is clear plastic pockets. It also has velcrove to close the little pockets. It isn't as big as a shoe holder either and with the velcrove the pockets are sealed pretty much. Most Department stores carry these. I would look around the socks area or scarf area in the Department Store. They come in white. You may even find this item at a Buck or Two as well. If you cant' find what your looking for perhaps if you sew yourself or someone you know does', ask them if they would mind making one up for you. It need not be large but large enough to keep all in order. Hope this works' for you and the little princess :0)

I kicked around this idea for my niece for a while, but then just didn't have the time to get to a craft store to get the supplies. This looks pretty easy to make, and very practical & decorative....
