N.G.
Totally normal. My hair loss slowed down after about 9-10 months, but I had handfuls coming out everyday.
ok i started lossing hair horribly about 3-4 mmonths after my baby was born and it was really bad. now my baby is almost 8 months old and my hair is still falling out. i mean it has slowed down alot since it first started but it still coming out pretty bad.. it mainly falls out while i am in the shower and when i brush my hair after the shower.. my scalp feels more sensitive and now i am starting to get little short hairs everywhere.. is this normal??? should my hair still be falling out?? like when should it go back to normal?? i still check my head for bald spots none yet.. i just so worried about going bald..

TOTALLY normal*
And the longer your hair, the "worse" it will be. Worse is in quotes, because its still the same # % whatever... But its HANDFULS of hair (be ause of the length). Every shower. Every brush.
Its one of those things one reads about, a d doesn't even blink at. And then it happens and
YOWZA!!!! Nooooooooo! This can't be normal!!!!! AIEEEEEE do you see a bald spot??? Look. Is this a bald spot??? Omg. I'm going bald. Please please please, I'm already fat and leaking and stretched out, I DONT WANNA BE BALD!!!
Okay. So THAT'S normal.
We don't shed for almost a year, and we aren't growing out 'new' hairs like normal, so we end up with rats (or small dogs) climbing our shower walls, and little baby hairs sticking up everywhere like someone OCD goblin decided to cut 2:3 hair down to 1 inch long.
Or, if we have short hair, we walk around looking like we just took off a barbers cape! No, really, I didn't just cut my hair. Its just falling. Out.
However....
(Here's the * from above!)
- Be ause of the massive hormone flux... Sometimes women's thyroids (or other glands) get out of whack. Which causes severe hair loss (and is fixed with a happy little pill). This is AWESOME when it does cause hair loss, because that's more noticeable than the other bad-bad-bad things that go along with hypo or hyper thyroidism (or other glandular issues).
- Because many (most?) women want to lose weight after birth... Dieting and exercise can also cause hair loss (because we're starving our bodies. If you're losing hair from weight loss, you're losing heart muscle, as well). This is especially common with breast feeding. EASY fix. Eat better. And eat a LOT more protein. It not only protects your heart, but hair & nails are pure protein. Healthy hair & nails = healthy heart 99:100.
.... Something to keep in mind with exercise: eat MORE. Really. You can be eating 4000 cal a day, but if your burning 10,000 cal... Your body is going to be VERY unhealthy. Athletes commonly EAT 12,000 cal a day. And are rail thin. Its because they're burning fuel. While its tempting to 'exercise more & eat less'... Its really bad for our bodies, and tanks our metabolisms. So of you've stepped up the gym routine, make sure you've stepped up the pie hole routine, too. The weight will come off slower, but it will KEEP coming off (instead of yo-yo), and you'll feel 1000x better. Be ause you'll be thin and healthy, instead of thin and unhealthy.
It's normal to lose hair after the baby. During the pregnancy, you don't lose as much so your body is catching up. If you are nursing, it will be more noticeable. The little short hair you notice is the new hair that is growing back.
So, it sounds like you are going through a normal process. If you are really worried, check with your doctor to make sure that you don't have any thyroid issues which is also very common after birth and cause hair loss.
It takes a while for your hormones to normalize after a baby and that normal may be different than pre-baby.
I know this happens right after birth to a lot of my friends. I just know it happens due to the hormones that cease or start back up, don't know the science or it. I would call the OB/GYN and ask.
I would talk to a doctor!! My hair changed texture a little after giving birth but never fell out.
Are you on, or changed, any medications? Sounds like something else is going on besides just giving birth and a change in hormones.
Good luck!!

give this a read and then consult your Dr. and a nutritionist.
Good Luck.
Yes, I've seen this in one of my clients in the salon after she had her baby as well. For peace of mind you could bring it up with your doctor as well just to be sure it's not your thyroid. But it's not uncommon so hang in there. Hair typically grows 1/4 to 1/2 inch a month so give it some time :)
The same thing happened to me and it's totally normal. My son is 21 months and my fringe is just now getting to bang length. Hang in there Mama and if you get too worried about it you can always ask your doctor. (I did have my thyroid checked and everything way okay.)
Have your thyroid checked!
My hair loss slowed down a lot around 7 months. If you are that concerned, you can talk to the doctor about it, but I would think you can give yourself at least another month to see what happens. You can also research any herbs, or supplemental vitamins that can help with hair regrowth.
