I had Paragard inserted eight days ago and I feel like I'm dying. The first two days were horrible with cramping, then I felt better but so weak from bleeding so much. Yesterday I felt great, bleeding like a normal period and no cramping. Today I feel absolutely terrible- cramps from my knees through my back and up to my belly button. I'm bleeding really heavy again and I'm so nauseous. Is this normal? Can anyone give me some words of encouragent, I think I'm going to cry!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just called the doctor, i'm getting concerned. I couldn't take my daughter to preschool today because i'm so sick. The doctor said it's totally normal to be this bad-- ahhhhhh! She said it could be bad for three months or so, but if I'm still bleeding so much in another week to call them back. I'm doing 300m motrin every 6hrs around the clock for as long as I need it. That's supposed to help the bleeding and the cramping. Blah. I never thought it would be this bad.

I was told my periods would be worse and at first they were. My cramps were bad- like labor pains that went all the way down my left leg for about 3 days after I got it. Its been 6 months and its getting better. U have something in your body that its trying to get rid of. Give it time. My issues got easier, but call your doc and let them know. It may not be right for your body

I would check with your doctor right away. I got a Mirena IUD put it 7 days ago and have not had any of those issues. I had a little bit of cramping and spotting the first night, but nothing since.

I did not feel like that. Go see your doctor/midwife/whoever did the procedure to check it.

I have had horrible periods ever since they put it in. The first period after I had it inserted I went through 9 overnight pads in 8 hours. I could barely function at work. Now it has been 3 months and my doctor said at my next visit we could switch it out for the Mirena. My periods were never that bad so that is why she thought it would work for me, but I want life to be easier not harder. The cramping and bleeding is so much worse than I expected. I think it is a good idea that you called your doctor. Hopefully there is something else that will work better for you.

The first time I had it put in I had a lot of cramping and heavy bleeding also, but the periods continue to get better. The cramping should also go away. If not you might want to check with your doctor. It did take a little while for the bleeding to get better, so hang in there! I have had it in for 1 1/2 yrs and I love it!

Is all that pain really worth it? Most of these stories sound horrible.
