My husband wants some 9mm practice ammo for his gun. When I look up "practice ammo" it doesn't bring anything up. What do you call the ammo that you use at the practice range?? I'm so clueless, lol.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Angela, that's awesome. That's where he goes too. :)
Abby, thanks for your concern, but yes, it's in a combination locked gun safe.

Bethy:

Practice ammo is ammo. It's all range specific. Practice ammo is NOT "blanks". The difference is the "pellet" - buck, bird, grain, etc.

Call the range that he uses and ask them what they permit on their range. They most likely sell it there as well.

My husband and I use Federal Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) ammo purchased from Walmart or similar discount stores. It works great and you will be able to find it in 9mm since that is a very popular caliber (especially since law enforcement uses it). More expensive hollow point ammo is used for those who carry their gun for self-defense. It would be a bit of a waste at the range since usually quantity is more important for practice than quality of the ammo. I'm so proud of you for encouraging your husband in his marksmanship. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas! Nurse Midwife Mom of 3

I hope your husband keeps his gun(s) under lock and hidden key. I can't understand anyone wanting to have a gun in a household where children live.

Call the range he shoots at. Not all ranges allow Full Metal Jacket which is the cheapest you can buy. If they allow the FMJ then buy that. If not, just buy the cheapest 9mm ammo you can find. He will be impressed you did all this for him! Merry Christmas!

I agree. Just buy it at the range that he goes to. Then you will know that you have what they allow. :)

ETA: I just realized you are from Arlington. I'm in Mansfield. Does your husband go to Alpine shooting range? That's where we go! :)

Target load?
Blanks?
Go to the gun store or the sports section at Wal-mart & ask the clerk in the sporting goods section what to buy for target practice.
Not really sure but hope that helps. ;)
