We are looking to have a beach vacation for 2014. We'd like to stay on the beach in the Gulf Shores. Can anyone recommend an affordable rental? I know we'll have to book now for next summer.

What can I do next?

We stayed there in 2009. One of our best multi-family vacations ever.

The house we had was called "When Pigs Fly." I think if you search for it in VBRO you could find it that way.

It was a great house. It has two completely separate residences on two different stories, each with its own huge deck. You don't have to rent both stories, but we did; our family in one and my brother's family in the other.
The kids were up and down between the two houses all the time.

It was gorgeous. A quick walk to the beach, private pool. Just one other row of houses in front of us before the beach.

If you can't find it and are interested, I may still have the link. Just let me know.

If we ever go back to the area, this is where we would stay.

Hope you have a great vacation.

I love the Crystal Beach area of Destin. I have stayed at a house called the Sundance and the owners also own one called the Sundial. Great people and reasonable price. Not sure if you have to work around kid's school schedules but we went in September and it was great. Good luck!

We just got back from Gulf Shores last week! We stayed at a very nice condo that was right on the beach. I don't know if you would be interested in a condo, or if you are only interested in a house, but the condo we stayed in was extremely nice. It was a two bedroom/two bath condo, and the resort had multiple swimming pools (all very nice), tennis courts, golf, etc. We stayed Sunday through Friday, and it was only $975. That included all taxes and fees. We were quite pleased. It was a wonderful experience! The owner was very nice, too. We rented through VRBO (the link is below).

I don't have any specific rental recommendations, but like the previous comment: VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) and AirBnB are great places to start looking!
