My son has regular BIG pre-winter growth spurts...same time every year! The first year he experienced them, it was really painful for him and we did warm bags and Tylenol for bad nights. The 4th year was even worse and we were scared it was something awful. The doc ended up doing a blood panel because it was so bad, but the blood tests were normal, thank god! Same deal 5th, 6th and now 7th year he is in excruciating pain. His knees and ankles hurt so bad he's limping sometimes.

Have you noticed this with your child? I know some kids don't experience any pain at all...the lucky little monsters ;)

Happy Holidays!

We use a good CalMag and the pain is gone within 2-12 hours. The bones need more calcium to allow the bones to grow to their potential. We now do the CalMag with all of our kids every other night and they sleep awesome and never have any pain.

Our friend took her son to 14 doctors and finally, at her wit's end, he took him to a chiropractor by a referral from a friend and she told her to go get calcium/magnesium (NOT calcium carbonate) and his pain was GONE. He'd been in pain for almost 5 years straight.

This will not show up on labs because the calcium gets leeched from the bone and has enough in the blood, so they are checking BLOOD levels, NOT body levels.

My daughter has growing pains from time to time. She's only 5 though, so I know getting her to take a cal/mag supplement probably wouldn't work (not because it wouldn't be effective, but because I couldn't get her to swallow it). She hasn't had any growing pains for quite a while, but when she gets them I just massage her legs for her and that usually helps. Last year was kind of bad because she would wake up in the middle of the night crying about her legs hurting from time to time.

it's a heartbreaker! Went thru it myself, & with both of my sons. We used ibuprofen & heating pads. We also did leg stretches daily.

We know when my daughter is experiencing a growth spurt because her feet (and sometimes her legs) really hurt and we have to rub them a lot. It never fails; after the pain goes away, she's usually taller. In fact, she's almost as tall as me at 11 years old (I'm 5'3"). We predict she will be almost as tall as her dad (he's 6'1"-6'2").

Both my boys have this issue and for some reason the cooler weather brings on the pain. We have upped the banana intake (on the off chance it would help) and not a huge difference. We use cold, not heat, & advil. I love the suggestion of cal/mag!

My daughter doesn’t seem to have any pain during her growth spurts. Last year she grew two inches in less than two months.
How is his diet? Maybe he needs more calcium and vitamin D. I am pretty sure a blood test can see if he has any deficiencies.
