Completely normal. This does not make it less painful I know. I had it worse with my 2nd. It is just the ligaments "letting go". In my experience, dilation feels more like cramps.
Hope this helps. Good luck! It is worth it I promise.
Can you feel dilation. I have pain in the groin region and people say it is from stretching. Can I be dilating? The doctor said it was normal but didn't say why.
Pain stopped after birth!

The first child is the most confusing. I have just had my third and still don't think I know enough about childbearing. The pain in the groin region is usually the stretching which is another word for dilating. You are close to having your baby congratulations. It is the greatest most wonderul experience that most woman can share. Having a loving and supportive spouse is one of the second most important issues when having a baby so to you I say KUDOS! Oh and don't worry childbearing is normal and you always forget the worst part.
No you can't feel dilation. The pain is very very normal. It is your ligaments stretching out and softening. Everything is getting ready down below for delivery. I had this pain with both of my children. If you use a belly band to support your belly this can help. Also stay off your feet. Good luck.
it could be your pubic bone separating a little in preparation for childbirth. I had it with my first pregnancy, and again with my 2nd (39 weeks...C-section tomorrow, believe it or not!!). It hurts like heck, more so when your pelvis moves (ie: putting on your pants, rolling over in bed). It's pretty common, ask your OB about it if you think that's what it is...
Good luck!
I had these throughout most of the second half of my pregnancy and I believe they are quite common. I was pretty scared when I first started feeling them though and went to the doctor who assured me it was just something called round ligament pain from my expanding belly and extra weight.
I personally did not feel myself dilating and walked around 2cm for almost a month. Every body is different though and if you are worried I would call your OB to be checked.
The pain you feel is most likely your pelvic bones spreading to make room for the baby to deliver. You can call your doctor about it, but you should be fine taking Tylenol to help ease the pain. Good with your delivery. :)
I had it when I was in my late pregnancy and my doctor said it was my ligaments stretching to get ready for the birth - makes sense if you think about it! It used to feel like a "stitch" - and I would double up with pain, fortunately it didn't last long each time. It usually happened if I walked quickly - I had to learn to slow down!!

I had the same pains and I doubt it is from dilating. I could be wrong, but I never felt myself dilating (I have two children.) However, I did have terrible groin pains -- felt like pulled muscles and the doctor also told me it was normal. As your belly is growing, the muscles get pulled. It should subside soon. Good luck.
No you don't feel dilation. What you are more then likely feeling is your pelvis spreading out. This is were pregnant women get that lovely little waddle. But you won't feel any dilation.
C., As a mother of 3, now 30,32 , and 34 years old, I can still remember that groin pain. Yes, it is very normal. The baby's weight is pressing on a nerve in your groin. Not unusual , and not a problem. As the baby drops down, it is normal to have that groin pain occur. Hope this is helpful. J. Nichols , Dingmans Ferry, PA
