Growing Out Your Nails

Anyone else have problems growing out their nails?

I am not talking about issues with them growing and staying long, but just having long nails period.

I am not a nail biter, but I do admittently pick at my nails. I do like the look of long nails (not talking extremely long) nails. But as I always find out, it drives me a little crazy to have long nails. I find it harder to type. Things get stuck under them all the time. And when I'm doing things such as putting groceries away in the car or putting on a show they get caught on something and hurt.

I am not even talking about extremely long nails...I'm talking about just past my finger they are grown now. I'm trying really hard to keep them, but I just don't know how long it will last.

Anyone else have this issue or am I alone. :)

What can I do next?

I have worn acrylics for the last 25+ years. And I take them off every few months and leave them off for a few months. Then I always hate how they look and put them back on.

However, I started taking some vitamins a couple years ago. After I took my nails off to let them breathe, they grew back really strong, I was shocked! Must be the vitamins! So even tho I still wear acrylics (habits are hard to break lol!) I *know* my vitamins are working because my real nails are strong under them. =) Here is a link if you want to check them out: http://www.GBGisIT.com They are the 10 in One and are chewable or liquid for quicker absorbsion into the body. And they have added probiotics...awesome! Good luck!!!

I'm the opposite. My nails naturally grow quickly and strong. They are typically about 1/2 as long as the pink of the nail (if that makes sense...)

It is harder to type sometimes, but I have learned how to hold my fingers so that my nails are hitting the keys instead of my finger tips... The only time I have issues is if one happens to break, so one finger is shorter than the rest. It throws my whole hand out of whack. lol. When things get stuck, my other nails are long enough to get whatever it is out. I keep mine rounded, so they very rarely catch on anything... but you are right, when they do IT HURTS!

I have a hard time having short nails... I like the feeling of long nails when I need to scratch an itch... If I need to pop a zit (gross... I know...) or pick up something tiny, they come in handy. My nails are also strong enough that I can break through tape and open boxes with them. :) THAT has come in handy several times! lol.

I have gorgeous nails; strong, pretty, shaped like fake ones, smooth... In highschoool when i wore them long people thought i had acrylics.

And i keep them cut back to the pink.

Long nails just annoy me.

Every once in awhile I'll start growing them out, go "Oh yeah... I hate that." and cut them off.

Military has nail length guidelines. No more than 1/5th an inch past the end of finger. I got used to it at 17... even fakes are worn no longer ( I do actually love acryllics), but i keep them short short short.

My nails grow OK, and are reasonably healthy. I don't bite or pick on my nails, and they are often a good pale pink. They also grow long (just like how you say, not loooonnngg., but just beyond my fingers) pretty quickly.
10 yrs ago, when I was in college, I used to fashionably paint them every 2 days, and they always looked neat, fresh and long and nice. Actually, even till about 3 yrs ago. Then pregnancy and daughter happened. Now, I don't find the time and energy for maintenance.
And I face the same issues as you do. Things getting stuck under them, clothes or bags getting caught, harder to type, and some nail invariably getting caught under the knife when am chopping something!
:))
I now keep them trimmed close (just a little over their natural pink end), and filed smoothly. I'm trying to learn to paint them with top coat and take some care about them to keep the polish lasting. Sigh! Tough job.

I have the same problem. I like the look of nails (not long ones), but have the same problems as you, including picking at my nails. I found that when I got pregnant and started taking the prenatal vitamins that my nails got thicker and grew faster. you may want to try that.

i also love the idea of long nails. But.. it's just not practical for me. I end up scratching my kids on accident. I pick at them constantly. And they just overall annoy me! So I keep them as short as possible.
